52 Tula bolt disassembly
« on: November 09, 2023, 07:32:17 PM »
I recently dragged my 52 Russian out of the safe to give it a thorough cleaning and I can't disassemble the bolt. The cross pin that retains the firing pin and extractor is being very uncooperative. I have banged on it hard with a punch but it won't' budge. I don't want to bugger it up so am I doing something wrong?

They can be very stubborn. A solid surface is your friend. You can try some Penetrating oil and let it soak overnight. A heavy hammer is also your friend. Iirc I used a two pound sledge. A good quality drift punch a little less than the size of the pin and a heavy hammer on a solid surface should do the trick. I think I placed mine over two pieces of hardwood on the concrete floor in my garage. Once you get that rascal out, it comes out easier the next time.

What he said^

But there is a bolt disassembly sticky under 'SKS TROUBLE SHOOTING' that deals with bolt disassembly.  Its about 7th down from the top under that heading.

Here is my method for removing a pin. I have never encountered any issues with this process.
