New look of Norinco Hunter Factory 386
« on: September 28, 2024, 01:50:04 PM »
The Norinco Hunter has a new look and can easily be restored to factory condition in 10 minutes. The rifle has not been modified or altered and has retained its original factory configuration. It is 922r compliant. The six parts were replaced with parts made in the US.

Very nice!  I think that's how a few Saiga conversion stocks were made too.

Looks cool, how is it at the range?

The rifle underwent testing for shooting ability only, with approximately 70 rounds fired without any issues. It is comparable to the Saiga Hunter 7.62x39 and Vepr Hunter 7.62x39 on the AK platform. After purchasing a good scope, I will return to the shooting range for the next test.
The rifle is 32" long with a folded buttstock, making it convenient for carrying.
The aluminum rail system was modified and secured at 7 points with set screws. (6 M5 screws are located on the top, and 1 M8 screw is located on the bottom.

I made an offer for the Vortex 1-8x24 with mount, which was accepted. The rifle is equipped with a new scope.

Very nice!  One more question though; how does the trigger feel?  The Saiga was converted to use a non-pistol grip stock by moving the trigger backward via a lever that connects to what is essentially a standard AK semi-trigger with the trigger protrusion cut off.  This one (the AK Hunter) seems to have done it by reshaping the trigger to sweep backward into a hook-like shape.  It seems to me that this would make the trigger feel like it's tilting upward significantly more than the regular AK trigger.  Doesn't this make it feel mushier somehow?  Does it take some getting used to or is there a nice crisp trigger pull?

The rifle has a unique trigger shape, similar to old hunting rifles. It is very smooth and moves slightly upward. I added a pistol grip without making any modifications, making it very comfortable to shoot. I also have a Saiga 12 that was converted to an AK-47 style with a pistol grip, but it was a long time ago and I don't remember all the procedures I had done. It was a hard job.

I disassembled the fire control group and ordered a Tapco FCG G2 full set to replace the original parts.

The entire FCG and the trigger guard will be replaced with parts made in the US. All parts are bolt-on.

I have taken a picture of the $40 budget aluminum scope mount for AK platform firearms. It seems to be of excellent quality and can hold 1"(it comes with the 4 plastic inserts) and 30mm scope tubes. I am currently figuring out how to attach it to the receiver without drilling any holes. If I don't complete the task, I will carry it over to the next project.

Are you going to reshape the Tapco trigger?  I don't see how you can get it to work as-is since it would move the trigger so far forward as to make trigger pull very difficult (unless you have some very long fingers).  That's the whole reason Norinco changed the shape of the factory trigger to begin with.

Still, it' would be interesting to see how it turns out. Let us know.

I won't need to modify anything. All the parts are bolt-on, perhaps requiring some minor adjustments.
Here is a new trigger guard from CSS that will be installed. It provides more room for the finger, and the pistol grip moves forward as well. The original trigger guard's receiver holes will be used to attach a new billet aluminum trigger guard.https://www.carolinashooterssupply.com/saiga-rifle-trigger-guard-bolt-conversion-screws-p/css-rifle-guard.htm

The Tapco G2 trigger and disconnector have been installed. I could have retained the original trigger guard by reversing it, but I opted to install the modern trigger guard from CSS (Carolina Shooter Supplies) instead.

Tagging the post so I can find it later. I may have questions.
