I disassembled the fire control group and ordered a Tapco FCG G2 full set to replace the original parts.

Are you going to reshape the Tapco trigger?  I don't see how you can get it to work as-is since it would move the trigger so far forward as to make trigger pull very difficult (unless you have some very long fingers).  That's the whole reason Norinco changed the shape of the factory trigger to begin with.

Still, it' would be interesting to see how it turns out. Let us know.

I won't need to modify anything. All the parts are bolt-on, perhaps requiring some minor adjustments.
Here is a new trigger guard from CSS that will be installed. It provides more room for the finger, and the pistol grip moves forward as well. The original trigger guard's receiver holes will be used to attach a new billet aluminum trigger guard.https://www.carolinashooterssupply.com/saiga-rifle-trigger-guard-bolt-conversion-screws-p/css-rifle-guard.htm

Yeah, I've seen those, but those are the type that get used to covert Saiga rifles/shotguns.  I thought your goal was to keep the form factor the same so that it could easily be returned to the original style stock.

I can easily restore the rifle to its original factory condition, but it will take longer. I removed only two steel rivets and detached the trigger guard. The CSS trigger guard is a universal trigger that can be used with any AK platform, not just shotguns. Also, it is ready to accommodate an AK pistol grip. My goal is to create a modern rifle with the option to revert it to its original condition if necessary. The rifle is equipped with eight parts made in the US. The new trigger guard is made in the USA; however, it is not included in the count.

I have two Saiga rifles that I'm planning to convert.  I may go with one of these trigger housings for one, but I wanted to see if I could do a "down & dirty" conversion like Sheikh Yerbouti outlined years ago.  Technically you can use the existing trigger guard, cut off part of where it extends out, and then reverse it and it should work, though you may have to pound it into shape a bit and you'll have to cut the hole in the receiver for the pistol grip nut.  I've been planning it out for years, but now may have the time.  I do like how all encompassing this unit is though.

I don't need to drill any holes in the receiver because the pistol grip nut is located outside the receiver, along with the trigger guard. I will figure out how to install the trigger guard once it arrives.

Here is my Saiga 12 conversion  https://www.sksboards.com/smf/index.php?topic=153316.0

The FCG retainer plate will replace the ugly spring. I tested the plate and it fits perfectly.

The project "Norinco AK Hunter new look" is completed. The rifle is 100% reversible back to the factory condition.
The original parts have not been drilled, filed, or altered in any way. The eight parts made in the USA have been installed.

Nice work.  You know, if you were to put a Galil style folding stock and pistol grip on that it could still pass for a Galil clone.

I don't want to create a Galil clone and risk ruining the rifle. If I add a Galil to my collection, I will buy one. :)

I stumbled upon this website and couldn't resist buying the Master Mount AK Side Rail kit for my Norinco Hunter, even though I thought I was finished with it.

Most AK plates are screwed / riveted onto the receiver.  I'm not sure that plate will hold zero over the long term . . .

There is no pressure or impact on that plate. I will not be using the rifle frequently, only once a year. The scope mount I currently have is okay, but it is made from cast aluminum and is not sturdy enough for my firearm. I need to test all scope mounting options and then select the best one.

That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw it too.  Definitely easier than drilling but the whole point is that the plate needs to be solidly attached.

I'll add some adhesive between the plate and the receiver. It should be fine.
"Epoxy adhesives form the strongest metal-to-metal bonds. They consist of two parts: the adhesive and the hardener. These combine to create strong, long-lasting bonds between different types of metal or between metal and concrete surfaces."

Interesting idea . . .
