I'm not going to install your flipping app!

It seems like every time I look at a web site on my phone anymore, they nag at me to install their flipping proprietary app.  In some cases (here's looking at you Xfinity), they have migrated essential functionality from their web site to their app -- as if they're trying to force me to use the app.

I AM NOT GOING TO INSTALL A PILE OF FLIPPING APPS ON MY PHONE!!!!!!!

Not going to happen.  I'm not going to keep spending money on upgrading phones every year so companies can fill them with proprietary apps -- especially when they need to support the browser based app in order for PC users.  I guess these companies will be losing a customer to a company that doesn't want to fill up my phone with crap!

If it isn't that, its the chat thing popping up incessantly on websites, if I wanted to chat, I would have said yes the 1st time, are you trying to drive me away?

Yep.  The agency bought me an external hard drive to back up my computer.  It's Chinese and wants you to register it with them, and install an app so you can transfer your data to the external drive.  Uh, no...  I just backed up my files on a memory stick.  I complained to the agency, and they said you don't HAVE to register the device, just plug it in like the memory stick and transfer files.

The external drive is still in the box.  I can see the Chinese drive "backing up" your files on a computer in the PRC for later reference.

It wouldn't be quite so irritating, except for the fact that now my phone nags me to REMOVE many of these app because I haven't used in some period of time.

One of our local restaurants requires you to download their app to see a menu and to pay! I refused so they let me walk to the bar and order and pay there. If I downloaded all the apps these places wanted me to I'd have thousands on my phone!

I'm getting ready to transition to Medicare.
Went to a seminar on Medicare supplements and prescription plans.
Part way thru they told us there was an app we could get to help us choose plans.
Several people downloaded it, I didn't.
5 minutes later, the phones of the people who downloaded started ringing.
People calling them to sell them Medicare supplements.

That's why I don't get apps.

Same, and I'd have told the owner/management that's the reason thye lost business from me. In fact they'd have lost several months of my patronage because I'm not going to go to some place that's a huge hassle to just buy something form them

Apparently there's a new phrase in the American Lexicon:  "reverse improvement-when a change that they end user neither wants nor needs is applied to a system"

I put needing an app to pay your tab, or the electric trunk closer on the Cadillac in this category. 

My mother had a big boat of a Cadillac that would wench the trunk down.  It broke after her boyfriend repeatedly slammed it.  The think is, the trunk lid on a Caddy is so big, if you just get it moving and get out of the way, it would close under the weight of its own momentum.  Completely needless and redundant system, just something else to spend money on when it tears up.
