My mother had a big boat of a Cadillac that would wench the trunk down. It broke after her boyfriend repeatedly slammed it. The think is, the trunk lid on a Caddy is so big, if you just get it moving and get out of the way, it would close under the weight of its own momentum. Completely needless and redundant system, just something else to spend money on when it tears up.
