What if Rita turns into the mother of all storms and totally blows Texas a new a$$hole and the government decides that it would be in the best interest of the country if every town over 10,000 inhabitants had soldiers posted there to help out in the event of another disaster or( ) terroist attack?  And while they'r at it, as a cost saving measure, if you make more then x amount of dollars a year, you have to house a couple of them.  Do you think people would stand by idle while a garrison is stationed in Boston in peace time?  What would you do if a garrison was posted in your town?
Illinois is good for two things: driving out of and living away from.

I moved this to where I felt it was more appropriate.  Sounds like major SHTF to me.

I'm actually worried about that as well.  I don't know that's what's going to happen, but I admit it could happen.  That's scariest of all.

Well we see shades of it already happening in NO.

WHat did people do there?  Looks like they did whatever they were told for the most part....

What I'm wondering is what happens when gas goes up $1.00 per gallon nationwide Saturday afternoon....

But, I don't think they would do that just because it would go to court so quickly and be so blatently unconstitutional.

So is gun confiscation, but they didn't let a little thing like the Constitution stop them.

I think, to post a garrison in each town with 10,000 people or more, the government would have to call a lot of our soldiers home from overseas. I doubt the government would be willing to do that. Otherwise, they'd have to draft more soldiers and the liberal soccer moms aren't going to like having their babies drafted. Remember, pissed off soccer moms have a loud political voice.

Either way, taking in a couple of the soldiers could work to our advantage. Make friends with them, treat them good, treat them like family, they'd be less likely to shoot you if you refused to give up your guns. If enough of the soldiers are sympathetic to the people of the town, you could almost have a government trained, and supplied, militia helping to protect your rights.

I realize that this is an overly optimistic idea, but it's hard for me to believe that most Americans are like the people we've been hearing about from NOLA.

Or at least they did, before Diebold so graciously offered to count their votes...

Allow me to quote from Joseph Stalin:

“Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything!”

Any questions?

I believe there WILL be a Draft soon, simply because those living their sheltered, pampered, gated-community lives in DC will not give up their imperial dreams to save a few (hundred? thousand? million?) American lives...

After all, since Roosevelt II we are all Enemies Of The State anyway.

Officially.

Quote
The War Powers Act is also known as the Trading with the Enemy Act, and is commonly confused with the War Powers Resolution (of 1973).

Also called the Act of October 6, 1917, it was "An Act to define, regulate, and punish trading with the enemy, and for other purposes." As the United States entered into WWI it became apparent that there were enemies living within the boundaries of the United States, and it became necessary to determine who could be labeled an enemy. The act specifically exempted citizens when it was written: "other than citizens of the United States."

However the Act of March 9, 1933, Section 2, specifically amended that to include: "any person within the United States or any place subject to the jurisdiction thereof."

These provisions only take place when the United States is under a state of emergency, which is why no president has declared an emergency since 1933.

Several Constitutional protections are subject to this state of emergency (or public danger):

    * Article 1, Section 9
    * 5th Amendment of the Bill of Rights
