My first AK.
« on: February 03, 2008, 09:05:11 PM »
With this election coming up I figured it would be a good time to buy an "evil AK-47 that can shoot down the space shuttle".     Got to the range yesterday confirmed the fact that I am a bad shot...

Congrats and welcome to the club...of bad shooters, of which I'm a member.  Nice family photo there too.  Is that a Marlin 60 in the middle?  Just picked one up today and took it out for a test drive.  Shoots pretty good.  How do you like yours?

Nice AK.

I think he did a good job shooting...if it was on full-auto.

Just kidding, but not really.

Obviusly I need practice but I had to use some soft points and the tips would be deformed slightly when fed into the chamber, which stinks becuase half of my ammo stash is soft point.

Tell ya what though...I still wouldn't take my chances standing in front of that target !  Yeah, it isn't 2 or 4 MOA like some can shoot, but if you step back and think about putting lethal rounds on target, just about all of those would have hit a man size target and done some serious damage!

Looks like it might shoot a bit high and right though...

That's not "just any" Ak, It's a Yugo M-70! I recently got mine too. I love it! I sold my Lancaster romy build to get the M-70. Much stronger, with the RPK trunions and the 1.6mm receiver. I like the teak furniture with the longer fore grips and the stronger butt stock attachment.

Your right OC, Yugo is just a better built, better feeling gun than the Romy. I messed with a Romy that was new at the local pawn shop. Canted front sight, wobbly, ugly furniture. Overall not worth the money IMO. Besides, thicker receiver on the Yugo, that alone worth sticking with the Yugo

Very nice AK! I'm planning to get a yugo B1 with fixed stock for the same reason, The upcoming elections.  Its not looking good on either side for gun owners.  BTW where did you buy it from?

I'm just going to throw this in for what it is worth.  Get rid of the angle muzzle break and get a good tapco, take it to the gunsmith and let him put you a good 11 degree crown on it and then show us some pics of your targets.  Different ammo makes a huge difference also.  Nice looking guns.  Just bought my future son-in-law a drag stock for his model 60.

jkeen, I often wondered how can the crown do its job behind a muzz. brake? Also has anyone used the J-tac brake offered on AIM's site? Xpensive! 60$

Have you ever wandered what the crown cut on an M4 style AR 15 with the fake press on muzzle break (POM)?  11 degree target.  Trust me it works.
