Helpful tips for Sig P6/P225 owners
« on: March 21, 2008, 11:58:58 PM »
Some things I've gleaned from the 'net while researching info on my recently acquired Sig P6:

1. SigForum http://sigforum.com/eve/ubb.x?a=cfrm&s=674608412 is the place to go for all things Sig.

2. Sig P6's are West German police issue. P225's are the commercial model. The P6's are noted by the cut under the hammer bob and different feed ramp. P225's (The barrel on the left in the photo below) have an improved feed ramp.

3.Sig P6's manufactured after June 14th, 1989, have an improved feed ramp. See http://sigforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/430601935/m/7211094811?r=9011037811#9011037811

4. Do not use ProMag brand Sig magazines! They are considered junk by the majority of Sigforum members. The Mec-car brand is considered ok, but everyone recommends only factory made Sig magazines for reliable feeding. Unfortunately, they are difficult to obtain--Top Gun Supply sells them for just under $30, but they frequently out of stock.

5. Most P6's have no problems shooting a variety of JHP ammunition. Some P6 owners reported feeding issues with 147 grain HP's, but lighter 115/124 grain HPs shoot just fine. Polishing the feed ramp and replacing magazine springs can help with HP feeding issues.

6.+P ammo may be safely fired in P6's, based on a the reply I received from Sig Sauer to my email inquiry. A new recoil spring may be necessary to shoot +P in the P6. Do not use +P+

7.
At this time, there are no Hogue or Pachmayr grips produced for the P6/P225. Out of production Pachmayr grips are going for a pretty penny on eBay (One went for a $120!). Hopefully, Pachmayr will respond to the revived customer interest in this pistol, and put back their grips on the market again.

8. Here's an excellent review of the Sig P6/P225 by Stephen A. Camp, including the results from shooting several brands and types of 9mm ammunition through his P6/P225. http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/Critical%20Look%20at%20SIG%20Sauer%20P225.htm

Good job on that info. I just lurk on sigforum cause they don't accept free email accounts for registration.

I just completly stripped mine down and duracoated almost everything so if anyone needs info on assembly drop me a line. Don't worry Pachmayr will be making grips again because I was one of the guys that had to have the grips so I paid over $100 for em. So they'll start making them again for $20 I'm sure. Also I have all three kinds of grips except the uber expensive wood ones and frankly I'm not a huge fan of any of them. The stock ones have the best size, the rubber have the best feel, and the cheap wood ones are just horrid imho.

I bought one a few months back. It's near 95% blue. It came with an issued holster, mag puch and 2 mags. These are great guns to shoot. Only complaint I have are the sights, there jet black but 226 night sights will work.

Just sent this email in to Pachmayr:

Pachmayr used to make an aftermarket grip for the Sig P225, as you probably know there has been a large renwed interest in this gun since the influx of the West German Police issue P6's became available. Would Pachmayr ever consider reopening this line of grips? If not, are any old stock ones available. IMO, there is a huge renewed market for these grips and I would certainly be a buyer if they became available. Thanks for your consideration.

FYI, the reply:

Hi, Pachmayr heard the cries for the reissue of the Sig 225 grip and has done a limited run. you may find these on our website by clicking on the grip on our home page. You will be taken to the area where the grip may be found. At this time we are out of them until around Xmas. However if you place your order now your card will not be charged until the order is shipped and you will be assured of receiving one. Or you can phone us to order 800-225-9626. Lyman customer service

Good news: Topgun supply now has P6 replacement barrels, that have the ramp mod for HPs' =D>

Bad news:
They sell for $159 a pop.

http://www.topgunsupply.com/search.php?mode=search&page=1

They have a lot of other P6 parts and mags now available.

If you have a P6 you may also want to check out one of the guys on SigForum who will fix the feed ramp. I know this guy will do it and I've gotten other things from him in the past

We just received our P6 Sig from J&G http://www.jgsales.com/product_info.php/handguns/sig-sauer/p/sig-sauer-p6-p225-9mm-caliber%2C-semi-auto-sigsauer-pistol-very-good-condition/cPath/16_234/products_id/1903
For $349.95

We also ordered two magazine pouches, one extra Sig brand magazine and one pro-mag to test. Looks like they are out of holsters, but one came included with the order.
Were very new to the handgun arena. Years ago we had a variaty, but its been along time. We have long guns like PSL's, SKS's, Mausers ect... Were always interested in new to us type weapons. Handguns are the latest adventure. A CZ82 will be next.
Anyway, It only took a few days to receive the order. Upon arrival the initial impressions were great. The pistol is in great condition. It has the typical slide bluing wear from holster use. But the overall integrity is beautiful. The internals and overall appearance is awesome.

We cleaned the weapon well. As well as the minor cosmoline spots, the gun came well oiled. The barrel is like new.

The feed ramp is pristine and almost looks like a modified later model one, but shouldn't be. The date code on the Sig is 1/81. Will need to run some hollow points threw it and see how it goes.

Here are some German marking on the slide.

The holster is also German police issue. The one we recieved is in exellent shape, very well made, and comes apart for belt or leg carry. It fits the gun like a glove and has a great snap set-up. The draw is good and has a natural shooting finger area to come out in a good position with the gun.

The Sig magazines are perfect. They look and function killer. The pro-mag was a gamble. But for half the cost we gave it a shot. So far so good. No problems feeding or last round hold open.....yet....lol

The weapon shoots better than I do. Being forty-seven years old and twenty years since firing a hand gun. This is the target at Ten yards.
Four in the Eye and four not...lol

Well I think the Sig P6 may be one of the best deals going. We got alot for $450 shipped to our FFl dealer. A wonderful German built gun that shoots exellent. I'd highly recommend one to others. Thanks and good luck with yours!!
