I like my hammerless, but somtimes I wish I had a hammer for those careful shots.
That's what I'm thinking, I'm leaning toward the Bodyguard style with the shrouded hammer. The downside is that the 638 Bodyguard is about $100 more expensive than the 642 Centennial. Is having a hammer worth that much money? Of course Taurus has a couple with bobbed hammers that would work too. http://www.taurususa.com/products/product-details.cfm?model=85CHULT&category=Revolver

I agree that the single action option is a plus. But how much precision are you going to get out of a 2" barrel? The base idea of the snub nosed DAO revolver is an utterly reliable, snag free, quick shooter at close range.

If you need better performance, it may be best to reconsider the platform. This is the reason why the DA/SA 3" J-frame appeals to me. Or the Taurus 85B3

It's there if you practice. I saw Bob Munden hit a baloon at (I think) 200 yards with a snubby. It took him 2 shots but it proves that they are accurate enough.

Of course none of us are that good but there is no reason why we couldn't hit a man sized target at 100 yards with enough practice. But you also have to weigh whether you'd ever NEED to do that. It would be fun to practice though. Imagine the money you could make on bets.

Not to mention that it's fun to watch someone drop a load when they hear that hammer pull back and lock in when they get caught being naughty.

Its a proven medical fact that racking a slide on a 12 guage brings on immediate bowel evacuation upon the target.

DOES ANYONE READ? I asked which J-Frame I should get. I specifically said I have a full size revolver. How can I make it clear to you?Sheesh
I don't know what a J frame is.  :P

*looks around a little more with eyes and reads*

well I like hammers when they are exposed, you can opull it back and hiar trigger it if you want accuracy.

The Smith J-frame is the smallest frame revolver they make. I'm considering a snubnose revolver but wanted some input on which style.

Oy, I went to a gun dealer a couple of days ago and just out of curiosity I looked at a PM9. Now I'm a die hard revolver guy but that thing was SWEET!!!!!!!!

I have been tossing around getting a Ruger 9mm handgun and a PC9 just because I have a weakness for rifle/pistol combos. To have 3 different sized guns in the same caliber gives me the jollies big time.

Of course I could get a 357 snub, full size revolver and a levergun, big problem there is I have shot a lightweight snub in 357 and I'd like to avoid doing it again.

But 9mm, talk about fun, and cheap, and if need be the PC9, with a 20 round mag filled with +P hollowpoints, would probably make a dandy self defense gun too. I just can't believe I'm seriously considering a semi-auto. Help me, I'm turning to the dark side.

Give in to the dark side, young Skywalker...
Revolvers are my favorite kind of pistol too, but I found a Llama micro-maxi in .380 cal that I'm gonna end up owning. It just fits my hand and feels like it was made for me. It's a sweet lil gun, even if it isn't a revolver.

I know, that's no help...

Don't worry, after about 100 rounds in a row, your hands turn into rubber and the pain is almost bearable. :D

Mines a five shot, and you must use loads that weigh 120 grains or more.

And the .357s are usually six shot instead of five.
Not J-frame snubnoses. 5 shots.
