Scenarios and old school paper and dice games
« on: October 29, 2009, 12:46:12 PM »
When I read some of the scenarios posted I feel like I'm reliving some of the situations I went through playing the old paper and dice game Twilight 2000. Has anyone else played this game in their younger days?

Twilight 2000 was a fun game... I used to play it quite a bit.

One of the guys I game with was a writer for GDW and helped put together a lot of those books. So I had a hell of a GM for those.

Good times.

Other games I still have Traveller and Star Frontiers. I think I stopped playing AD&D after 2nd edition came out. Now in PDF I have the 1976 edition of D&D with all 9 books. But my all time favorite was Twilight 2000. They recently redid the history time-line and renamed the game Twilight 2013

The first adventure is Twilight 2000 was a pure SHTF scenario. You started out in central Poland and your division just got wiped out by three Russian divisions. But you gave as good as you got. The Russian divisions are no longer combat effective and the front line is fluid at the time. The only things you had were your weapons, some ammo, very little equipment and food, and maybe a vehicle. And your goal was to get back to Germany.

What about ... S&S? Suburbs and Suburbanites! "My 9th level accountant audits your babysitter!" (Rolls a 20 sided dice). "Sucess, a dirty little secret comes out. You lose 5 wealth points and your portfolio must save versus ... " OK OK you're right its not a real game. Hopefully I just cracked a few of you up though.
Well, it's official. All three of the branches of the Federal Government are using the constitution as if it were TP. RIP Freedom and freewill the old republic has been replaced by a very potent kleptocracy. We're getting what we deserve, I guess.

I used to play Twilight 2000 quite a bit. In fact, it was the only game that we used to play that I liked to GM. We played a lot of them though D&D 3rd edition, Rifts, Star Wars, MERP, etc. I've actually been trying to find another group but I don't think it would be the same without the original crew.

We have a weekly DnD game.  The group I play with has been togather since memorial day weekend 1982.  We are nearing the end of our first 4th edition campaign.  Others we have played over the years, Battletech, Car Wars, Star Wars etc.

Ah... Battletech... My first serious game... I've still got a better part of an inner sphere regiment of mechs. The good stuff from before FASA lost the rights to all their anime mecha like the warhammer and the archer.

Ah Yes Twilight 2000 - still have the box and my old characters!  It was basically D&D moved to the 20th century...way back in the 20th century....

It's really funny to look through the vehicles and look at what they thought a T-90 and an M1A2 were going to look like. Little casemate turrets and all.

I played them all.  Loved Twilight 2000.  Turned me into a prepper and love combloc weapons.

DnD, Gamma World, Traveler, Squad Leader (Cross of Iron & Crescendo'), Car Wars..Played a lot of them back in the day. Eventually ended up working for Steve Jackson Games as a freelancer.
