Yet another re-finished WASR. . .
« on: December 01, 2009, 11:11:14 AM »
Here are few pics of a re-finish I did for a friends birthday over the summer. Not going for any look in particular. Makes me wanna buy a WASR to do it for myself. . .

Looks great.

What stain color did you use?

A few coats of MinWax Sedona red, then a couple coats of clear, semi-gloss poly. I left the shine up a little bit (as seen in the sunny-day pics) but that's an easy take-down.

I also had an extra PG from an Arsenal Sam-7 that I replaced the original with. That really helped to finish it up.

Looks very good. Nice job on the finish.
Not to be a weasel, but the original pistol grip as likely a US 922r part.  The Bulgarian is foreign (unless K-Var USA).  May want to revisit the parts count.  Not trying to stir up anything.  Just a thought.

No problem. I really appreciate the cautious words. Truth is, I thought that before it was installed, as the spare parts came in a lot. But I am almost 100% positive it had "US" stamped near where it meets the TG, leading me to believe it was K-Var gear. I told him it was a loaner in case I was going to black-out my Krink but saw what K-Var was charging for it and just decided I'd purchase another if it ever comes to that. But I'll double check next time we're around his safe. . .

that looks nice, good job!

Thanks alot!

Thanks for the kind quotes guys. If it were mine, I'd have taken the shine down a bit but different strokes for different folks. He was pleased with it because it tightend up the feel of the rifle (poly probably helped).

Nicely done.
I like a matte finish but if done right, the gloss can have a certain appeal.

Good luck! I just saw your progress on Martin's thread. We'll be waiting for pics.

**Update** I did make sure about the PG and it is (as I thought) compliant. Thanks again AKBLUE!

I did a trooper stock in the same color and was equally pleased.  Nice job!
