I grew up in s. LA., and also spent 28 years as a LEO in S. LA.  This is first hand knowledge to me.

25 year LEO. We all see things different. Some say the cup is half full, others say it is half empty. Neither is wrong.

Wiki says 200 and I heard a LEO say 450.

Personal I absolutely love the police.  They are pilars of the community and are only interested in protecting and serving good citizens who do what they are told to do.  How these young men and women putting themselves in danger for the betterment of society became so hated is beyond me.  I think it has something to do with the media showing them beating up people and violating their civil rights or something.  Those people probably had it coming though as they did not do what they were told.  I have had lots of friends in LE and this seems to be the common attitude when they have a few drinks and let down the front.

Wow.  I don't even know where to begin with this paragraph.

Guess it's just better if I say nothing.

Funny how some say that people with AK-47s and SKS are Skin head felons that should be disarmed and jailed.

I figured it had to be something like that because I was just reading some other threads where he commented and it was totally different than this.

He then said, " most police officers have family and in a major situation like SHTF, they would stay home and protect them"
I know a guy who is a motor officer and bomb tech for a local PD.  Once we were discussing, what if society fell part?  I said I figured it would be good to belong to a "fraternity" (my word) with a sophisticated communication network, command structure, and other support, plus vehicles, plus weapons.

All he talked about was being at home with his family in such an event, and lamented that he doesn't have more firepower at home, etc.

He doesn't appear to have any illusions about the ability of LE people to "contain" a populace that's in a state of hysteria on a wide scale.

"(I said I figured it would be good to belong to a "fraternity")"

So if SHTF, are we wearing boardmember patches to ID one another,  :-s or will it be anyone without the same last name as you gets a bullet??? 8-[

Well... for me it depends on the SHTF.... Are we talking about another Hurricane Andrew down here in S. Florida? Because if that's the SHTF guess what? We're on Alpha Bravo and I'm working 12 hour shifts trying to help my community as best as I can. Yes, my family comes first.... the moment the storm passes I will check on their well being and make sure that they're okay. I'll also make sure that my family has water, food, and medical treatment if needed. But I'm not abandoning the community I swore to protect.

No one here can't state that they will not try to make sure that their loved ones aren't safe.... if you do you're frakking lying through your teeth.

If it's a Red Dawn or OMG Zombies.... guess what... most PD can't do jack in that except try to help the Feds, the National Guard, and the Reg Mil. Even then who knows what.... What role can police be used for in an event like that.... not a clue.

Those that left their posts in Katrina are a bunch of rats.... every PD has them. Most guys and gals will do what is needed and then some. I'm not abandoning my post unless I have to for my own safety or that of my family.

My cousin is a leutenant for CHP. He said he isn't stupid and will NOT obey any orders to disarm the populace, he also said that his family will come first.
