Springfield Armory M1A & Auto Ordnance M1 Carbine
« on: December 22, 2025, 07:05:30 AM »
Picked up a Springfield Armory M1A a year ago. Had a chance to get it at a decent price and snagged it. It's the standard model, no frills. I haven't shot it yet. With the eye issues I've had the last two years my shooting has been minimal. But the peepers are getting better so this one will get some rounds run thru before too long.

Been trying to find a M1 Carbine for a long time. Gave up on getting a GI model and got this one from AutoOrdnance. Again, it's the base model but a nice little unit. This one I took out a month ago and ran a couple mags thru it. Nice little rifle. I see why it was popular with troops.

Congrats on your new hammers! The M1A was the very first gun I bought when I turned 18 to do a 4473. It was SN 6022. It had a over deep cut chamber shoulder but SA took car it it quickly with a new barrel and a TRW bolt. I liked it alot but after 10 or so consecutive hits on the target, the groups would open up to the 3"+ range pretty quick. Cold barrel groups were great 1MOA or some times better. Ended up selling it so I could buy a SA SAR48 (Imbel FAL). Big FAL fan now to the end. Still love the history of the M1A and my son has a Bush version of one that he really likes.
I was thrilled that Kahr bought out AO some years ago. Being a X AO CS guy, the West Hurley shop was run by a bunch of non shooting penny pinchers. I could only handle them for so long until we ran out of GI Colt 1911 Numrich stocked parts then they chins-ed out buying really bad market parts and bad castings for the 1911 A1 assembly line I was responsible for. Yeah, I was pretty happy to see Kahr take over big time since I still own a Kahr K40 and find it very well made and the warranty was beyond expectation since when I bought it of GB, it was apparently shot ALOT. The barrel and slide lock up interface was beat up pretty bad. It still function but it was loose as a goose with barrel lock up. I sent it back and they gave me a new slide and barrel no questions asked!. It was black mat stainless. So, I figure you got 2 guns that are backed up with good people backing them UNLIKE my previous post. Only thing I hope AO would do is put out an M1-9 that takes those Glock mags. It would be an easy spec change up and it would prove to be considerable more reliable than all those M1 Carbine guns of yesteryear that were horribly un reliable shooters. The bolt can cycle way past the cartridge rim for swift n strong feed pick up so those 30 sticks might feed pretty well with a good recoil spring. Here I go blabbing the time away.... So Merry Christmas and what a great combo 593! stepin into 26 just right!
