I can't remember who, but I think it was the University of Michigan who did an EMP experiment. They tested 30 vehicle. I think about 1 car was killed, but repairable, a few had minor issues like radio won't work, stuff like that. Most car electronics are already kinda hardened for EMF from the ignition system. I think most cars will survive, but fuel will be the issue. Either getting it pumped, or taken from you by gangs who see you have a running or non running vehicle. Will be a black market commodity. I have a couple bikes, not specifically for SHTF, but also have some car parts in mylar bags. Again not specifically for SHTF, but because my car is old and parts hard to get so I have spare ECUs, sensors, dashes, electronics. I drive for a living, so I also have a spare can of fuel on hand in case I start the day on E but get some freak blizzard. that way I pour it in and can idle for a while if stuck in traffic or snow. EMP effect is highly dependent on the blast proximity, and the reliability of a warhead. The NAVY can't catch everything, and all it takes is one rouge freighter carrying a shielded warhead, and mobile launcher disguised as something off the coast in international waters. I our Navy gets them all, but I can't have 100% faith in any government. Bikes are good, for mobility, reliability, etc. You lose some protection from people, even though a car door won't stop a bullet, it can stop a bat or sword, and prevent some robbery. I think the power grid and fires would be the bigger issues. I live in a agricultural county, so I hope we'd have a slight advantage, as far as supply an bartering. I hope it's something we never see. I think back in the day I could have survived it, but I've softened up and have kids with a large dependency on technology and convenience.
