Taking on group members
« on: July 24, 2013, 09:11:05 PM »
Zombpocolypse or total collapse of modern society is the context.

The world is in Chaos, person X shows up at your front, gate in a vehicle, alone. You know person X fairly well, and hung out a few times. You know they are competent with a gun and for the most part trustworthy. what qualifications would a person require for you to accept them to your team? (If you already have a team, why did you choose the members).

On the Flip side of this, why would you turn person X away?

Please explain in comments.

Original team only.  Family members get a handout and are allowed to move on.  My 'family' is a bunch of jerks and aren't invited any other time, so why now.

No poll option for turning 'visitors' away.

Take on no one. I would just try to get to my destination as quickly as possible .

Since I'm not a murderer, I will not randomly kill people for the contents of their pockets.

I would not be able to turn away my friends, my wife's friends, our family,  people with kids or really anyone in need of help. I would not take free loaders though.
Call me a sap or someone who leans on religious principles, but I don't see me shunning anyone who is not a freeloader.

Girlfriend's family's land. Couple thousand acres of deer woods that are a part of a lumber mill. The whole thing is set next to a river. The cabin has a complete metal outside with window covers and is raised a good 20 feet off the ground (so the river can't flood it). Has a corn field and lots of peas along with a small garden of tomatoes and peppers. Her uncle has his dealers license and sells firearms out of his home so he has plenty of firearms. Being a deer hunting family everyone (about 20 people) has either a .243 or .308 deer rifle. And every male has an ar-15. Her grandfather owns a GM dealership even though I can't really see a car lot being that helpful, but adds to the point that her grandfather has money. He has a small private jet that we could cram into if things got real bad. We just finished harvesting corn and peas and freeze drying them. I think it's a pretty could plan. Our 1 year is next Saturday  8)

Like someone random entering your property? Could you explain?

I posted this to another board and a large part of them answered kill person X and take his stuff.  I would turn away all family members and friends. The real friends know what the plan is. As for unknowns, they get fired upon, because they would have to break through gates to get close. if its someone who just shows up out of the woods, held at gunpoint or fired on.

This same topic was pretty much discussed in another thread with some very similar comments.

The whole "I'll shoot everyone" mentality really does bother me.  That's also why I have no intentions of going anywhere near ANY populated area.

Chances are if I know them, they are welcome as they would come with food, other supplies, ammo and weapons. There wouldn't be many though. And face it, two people can't stand a watch 24/7. You do need help.

One warning shot to anybody. They've had people try to rob their deer camp (maybe worse they had guns). But her uncles 44 mag can be discouraging.
