Edit 4:  This Keeping track thread is essentially obsolete now for the purposes of tracking S/N's.  The new Comprehensive Chinese SKS Survey is up and running!  Please click this link:

to enter your rifle into the survey!

This post contained information that needed to be updated, but due to recent events on these boards, I no longer have the inclination to do so.  Rather than leave up information that may steer a new SKS owner wrong, I think it's best to just pull this thread. Do a google search for "Chinese SKS FAQ, HOWTOs, & Guides" or "Recent CAI, IO, & TGI Chinese Type 56 Imports Guide", you'll find what you're looking for.

I received 4 of these.  3 are sino's and 1 is a ghost.

#1:  Sino with mismatch Russian cover.  The rest of the rifle matches including the stock.

#2:  sino with mismatch Chinese cover.  The rest of the rifle matches.

#3:  ghost with mismatch Chinese cover.  The rest of the rifle matches.  This rifle is in a cutdown Albanian stock.

#4:  sino with mismatch Chinese cover.  Rest if the rifle matches.  This rifle was in a cutdown Albanian stock.  (No longer in my possession)
Have a mismatch receiver cover?  Looking for your missing cover?  Head on over to the Mismatch Receiver Cover Exchange/Database!  Post your mismatch cover and browse the database for yours!

Guys... please state if your rifle is 100% matching or not. If (not 100% matching) please state what is mismatched.  Thanks...

The 4 I ordered are:

16623
172206-Bill's rifle
F1849
187102

All numbers matching, no electro pencil, all but one stock were crap, 2 had rust and some pitting on the outside, bores are all good, none of the receiver covers had any "Russian" markings on them, all said I.O. on them.

All cleaned up nicely, actions seem tight and are in good condition. The bolts show little wear, no volcanoes, I would feel safe shooting any of them.

Sino-Soviet
Everything below the belt; stock, receiver, mag, trigger assembly: H1590

Everything above the belt; bolt, bolt carrier, receiver cover, possibly piston: F8782

Gas tube either has the number under the wood or is unmarked. Piston mark is very faint, maybe has F87 visible.

Good deal guys, I think this will work out well!  I'll be trolling through old posts from July forward, looking for 3 post newbies that may have scored one that are no longer with us.  If I can find pictures, obviously it'll be a green number.  If matching it will be a bold, though unless I can verify that it is indeed matching (with the original stock) I'll assume it's not.  If I snag something that's yours that you would prefer I not list here, please PM me and I'll pull it off.  Also if anyone wants to have their mismatch receiver covers taken off the list, please let me know as well.

Thanks!

100% All matching Chinese Ghost with serial number 15894 - Guaranteed correct by RM and Mr.Coinring specifically!

See this post for full details:

Hi All,

I'm a brand new member here and first of all, have to say this is an impressive site with some real priceless info so thanks to all who have contributed and in doing so have helped me in identifying my SKS. With that being said, I'm now at a point where I could use some help!

I jumped on the same deal that this thread is following an purchased just one SKS although wish I could have bought more.. This is my first SKS and I find that researching all that I can about any new rifle is half of the fun of it. The other half is shooting it now that I've cleaned the cosmo off and that's the plan for tomorrow :)

Do you think some of you might perhaps be able to assist me in getting an idea of when this was built and anything else that might be interesting please? I can tell you that all the serial numbers on every part are matching including the serial number stamped in to the stock that I found was cracked but not so badly. The wood had a pretty well absorbed amount of cosmoline within it so I have stripped it with mineral spirits an given it a fresh coat of Shellac. I know some people frown upon this but I just couldn't have used it without getting covered in cosmo if I hadn't of so there we go.

Attached are some pictures. There are a few other markings but nothing obvious, no "26" as I'm reading some others are seeing or stars or trench art (unfortunately) but it is very clean and the bore is nice and bright.

If you could take a look and help me reveal some history on this I'd very much appreciate it!

Thanks in advance
