My 1st SKS
« on: March 11, 2016, 09:36:32 PM »
I think this is an unmodified sks. If it's not, please let me know and I'll remove this post. Any info on this thing will be greatly appreciated. Was told by another member that it's an early Chinese using a Russian receiver. I picked it up on trade.would also like opinions on if I should refinish the stock or not. Being so rough, I figured it would only be a shooter anyway. Thanks all!

Wow! Looks like a Soviet Sino to me. Less than a dozen known examples. The experts will let you know.

What's the left side of the stock look like? Are the numbers the same as the reciever?

Unfortunately the stock has no markings at all. I even removed it and nothing on the inside either.

The stamp in the last pic apears to have been double struck and they almost got into the caliber stamp.

That is definitely a soviet sino . I want to say we only know of the serial going up to a high as 1999 I very may be wrong so maybe some members seasoned on Chinese sks will chime and tell you what you have . I believe it to be very uncommon . But please I could be wrong . Nice grab . You see there's a series of Russian supervised made sks called sino Soviet and usuall will have prefix letter followed by low serial in the 4-5 range . Then sino Soviet had letter gun star on side but just low serial 4 digits before Russian star . Or I could backwards on this and it's the othere way around but . You have something there .anyone ?

I was under the impression that the Soviet sino's all had the side strap. Of course nothing about this one seams normal. I was going to refinish the stock and use it for a shooter but I'm gonna wait to see if anything definitive comes from this post. I appreciate everyone's input, kinda getting excited LOL

My impression was Soviet sino was serial like this 1948 ⭐️. Sino Soviet serial would have letter prefix then serial like F3124. Side swivel or not . I would leave as is . Overall you nab a good one . Congrats

Congrats!!!

You do in fact have A Soviet-Sino. That is as defined, a Russian receiver shipped to China and made into a rifle at a much later date.... Yours appears to be well used. I am adding it to the database right now. The star on the receiver is the dead giveaway. 1956 and on Russian guns had the side star instead of the receiver cover star.

Here is a link to the database!

Welcome to the very small club of 10 Known rifles. I am sure there are many more since I have SN 1999 but still darned cool!

Thanks for the info Prince50! I was looking for a shooter so I may try and trade it for something more usable. Maybe even and AK47 LOL. Any idea what this thing is worth being it's well used? Everything is still nice and tight on it and shoots great.

Value is in the eye of the collector. I think a premium over a nice Russian is in order though.

Let me chew on the price a bit.

When the SHTF you better already have it at hand, because it won't be on the shelves when you get to the Wal-Mart land.

Holy Grail, Batman...

Out of curiousity what did you trade in order to aquire this carbine?

Edit: stock appears to have been lightly sanded and refinished.

Regardless...it is still an extremely rare carbine. Of the first batch of "Chinese" SKS's. And worth a considerably higher premium than most others.
