I cannot believe that the week went so fast and that we have another Shoot in the rear view mirror; This one was about as perfect as it could be (it really was the lucky 13), with gorgeous weather, great shooting, excellent food, great friends, and a lot of fun and laughter;
We started out Thursday with lots of folks arriving and setting up at the camp area, and then we did some range time on the 450 yard range before heading into town to the Log Cabin BBQ, a favorite of the group, where we feasted on prime rib and pulled pork BBQ before returning to camp for a roaring fire;
Friday dawned cool and dry, and after a quick breakfast and coffee we headed out to the 450 yard range for the Long Range Rifle event; after a tough competition, Swamplady edged out RWS31 for the win, nice going, Flo, you CRUSHED it!
Then it was on to the Combat Marksman event, where shooters moved from station to station, shooting from varying positions and ranges for time; stations included a culvert pipe, a bunker, a VTAC wall, and a simulated "rocking boat" station called the "Captain Phillips" after the Navy Seal shot taken on the Somali pirate; none of the shots were easy, especially after running a hundred yards or so with the rifle, but everyone did well, and in the end RWS31 cruised to victory, good shooting, Roger!
We then had a nice lunch of grilled Hebrew National all-beef hot dogs (they were really good!) and some nice sides, and then it was time for an advanced handgun fundamentals class, where shooters were able to hone their skills at drawing and firing accurately and quickly; the students had a good time, and really picked up their skill levels in a short time! After class it was a nice dinner of huge sandwiches and Wisconsin Cheddar soup (which somehow has beer in it, and tastes like Thanksgiving dinner!) and then it was on to the bonfire and some really good after dinner cocktails....
Saturday morning we were up early and on the range, for one of the nicest range days I can remember; We broke for a lunch of Italian sausage sandwiches and burgers, and then we rolled out the competitions!
The SKS event had the most shooters, but the 2 finalists ended up being the husband-wife team of Rocketvapor and Swamplady; in a photo finish (for real) Rocketvapor shot his exploding pumpkin (a pound and half or so of Tannerite in each target!) a hundredth of a second or so before Swamplady; good finish, Glen, and enjoy that Timbermith stock!
Then it was time for Vintage rifle; another tough event, but a darkhorse, aka Timkett (shots!) came out of the stands and handily detonated his target with a Mosin 91-30!
Last but not least was the run 'n gun pistol event, where competitors shoot a 16-target course with multiple stations for time; this is a very tough event, combining speed and accuracy, and 7.62Rebel smoked it! Way to go Liam!
After the comps, we had some more range time, and then at around 4PM we closed the range and had a nice social hour, laughing and talking about the day before settling in for a serious BBQ feast; BBQ ribs, chicken and vegetable kabobs on the grill, corn bread casserole, and a host of other sides; for dessert we had a magnificent chocolate and peanut butter cake, (special thanks to Heimdahl and Mrs. Heimdhal for all the great food!) and then it was time for the awards ceremony and door prizes; when all the prizes given out, we sat by the fire, laughing and talking, sampling jello shots and sangria and some really good beer, and just having a great time with good friends, both old and new.
Yes, my friends, it was a great time, and I can't wait to do it all again;
Thanks to everyone who made the event so great, and I hope to see you all soon!
Ranger PS- as soon as get them all loaded up, I will be posting pics, so look for them soon.....
