Mardi Gras, SKS Boards SHOOT Style!
« on: January 26, 2018, 05:43:54 PM »
 Hey Podna' it's time to get on down to Florida for the Survivor's SKS Mardi Gras Bash! Come on down for a bit of the Big Easy, and some good shootin' too, We doin' Mardi Gras in the 'Glades!

  The dates for the Mardi Gras March 2018 Shoot will be MARCH 22-25 2018!!!!!

    For those of you who have never been to one of these or are just joining us, this is our semi-annual get together and shooting event, with competitions, open range time, classes, and lots of good food and fun; we stay right on site in a beautiful oak-shaded camping area , with electricity for the campers as well as hot showers , running water, and the joys of indoor plumbing, so it's not really "camping" as much as it is "sleeping on an air mattress in a tent with electricity or in an RV or a camper";...heck there are even a  few hotels not too far away for the tender-foot non-camping folks...  We provide all of the meals (really excellent food, too, and lots of it) as well as a lot of other fun stuff; there are 5 different shooting competitions, a half range day,, and a full open range day; at night we have a bonfire, and often we run a movie, and sometimes we even have fireworks; If you've never been, you should come on down, it's a great time, with great people.  8))

  The event is open to all Survivor's SKS Board members and their guests; friends, family, and kids are welcome as always. 8)

  As always, we will be at the Hendry range, with on-site camping and festivities; For you folks who need to map it, the address is 700 Whitt Road, Clewiston, FL.

  Members may arrive on site Wednesday the 21st, to set up camp and relax, and socialize; We will do some range time  and maybe some trap/skeet time on Thursday, the 22nd, and The Shoot events begin the morning of  Friday the 23rd at 9:00 AM; :sniper on Friday we will be running an open- division, long range rifle competition- 450 yards, any center fire rifle caliber platform, optics, brand, or setup;  After that, We will be running the long range "Combat Marksman" competition as well, from 350-200 yards from different shooting positions, for time, using cover , from rooftops and under logs and other positions; that one promises to be a lot of fun. The afternoon will bring an open range period of 3 or 4 hours to get you some extra range time on the rifle and pistol ranges and maybe a .22 rimfire competition;

  Saturday the 24th will feature an open range day (starting at 8:00 AM)  :blob5: , competitions, prizes, a social hour/cocktail hour, a huge BBQ banquet, an awards presentation, games, door prizes, and a really good time just  hanging out around a roaring campfire with your fellow SKS Board members and friends. :headbang:

  Sunday the 25th is the big farewell breakfast, and we take the group picture, break camp , and head home late morning.... :hello2:

  Now, as always, It's a preregistration event, with a prepay;

      The cost is  $70, , which if you've been there, you know is a bargain for what you get..... 8)

  Here's what you get :

   ALL of your camping and range fees-3 nights camping, the Friday long rifle range competitions,  a full  open range day (8 1/2 hours) range time for a class or bonus long range or open rifle range and two half range days (3-4 hours each of pistol/rifle range time)
   ALL of your meals (7 meals- 3 breakfasts, 2 dinners, and 2 lunches)

   Your SHOOT T-shirt (and they are really nice shirts; nothing cheap, please add $2 per person for 2 XL and $3 person for 3 XL )
   Door prizes
   Games- horseshoes, cards, cornhole, etc....
   And all kinds of other fun stuff......

    For a mere $70, it's one of the cheapest weekend getaways you can do, hands down!

   Registration is through the site's Donate button at the bottom of the page, and the deadline for registration is  TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2018;
   So get your dates marked, schedule that time off, and get ready.....It's still 2 months out, PLENTY of time to get your gear together and come to one of the best darned events around. 8)

  So get ready, grab your gear, gas up the car, get ready for beads and King Cake and some great Cajun food and fun!,  the Shoot parade is gonna start, and it's gonna be a real big time, Big Easy style, so  Laissez les bons temps rouler ! as our 'Nawlins friends like to say, and Let the good times roll!!!!!

 So Allons! my friends, and we will  see you there, you! (Those Cajuns sure do talk funny)

  I can't wait! 8)

Que carajo dijo?

I plan to be there.  I don't know if any of my usual crew will be there or if I'll be going solo again, but I'll have my tent freshly re-sealed, and I've already fixed the broken pole so hopefully I won't have to be leaving early (and getting stuck in the mud) this time around.
I am the one they call Cesar.

 If you have never been to one of these, it's worth the trip, and in March, this is one of the few places in the USA with good weather;

  We have a loaner tent of two along with some sleeping bags and other gear if you are coming from a long way and want to fly in, and you can ship your gear ahead and we will have it there for you.....

  It's a great event, and the Mardi Gras part of it will make it even more fun. :joker:

  For the folks that missed it in the initial post, we have a clay thrower , so we can do some trap/skeet shooting, so bring your shotgun if you are into that; I will pick up some clays, but you may want to bring some as well so we have plenty. :sniper :sniper

I am very fluent in the Cajun curse words and that is about it.   :lol:
My Dad was 100% Cajun, my Mom is 1/2 German and 1/2 Irish.  French was not spoken in our home enough for me to catch on to it good enough as Mom didnt learn the language very well.

Great, come to the shoot and teach us how to curse in CoonArse :)
That way I can go into a Cajun bar and get into deep do do  :shock:

Many of you guys don't realize how fun these events are.
A chance to meet face to face some of the good members.
Thankfully there are some that don't show up  :roll:
The schedule has been quite predicable.
Pretty close the the last full weekend in March and October.

You don't need a lot of camping supplies to participate.
You will need a bucket of ammo to have fun, but a minimum to compete.
Bring your gun loving wife. Let her see how much fun blasting can be.

I do suggest you trim back on the calories for a couple weeks before the event.
I'm still trying to get down to my 'shoot weight' :)

Go back and look at the pics and videos of past events.
Man, this is fun.

Looking forward to seeing you all

RV,

Some practice, some actually sitting down and rtfm on my Scope/Rifle combo for the long range shoot.  Now I think I can actually get a few shots on paper.  It turns out that I can zero to an offset at 50 or 100 yards and that will give me a zero at 450 (maybe I am the last one to learn this  :lol: , but it finally made sense).

Also doing some practice with the SKS and Mosin for the vintage and SKS comps (still running the SKS for combat comp.).

Managed to get in a little pistol practice too, we will see if the results show it.

In any case, I will enjoy seeing You guys and visiting around the campfire and all the other stuff that makes the Shoots so much fun.
