Picked up minty SKS-S "para" today; pics
« on: April 05, 2024, 07:23:35 PM »
Found a minty SKSS "para" today at my LGS. Looks like it just came out of the box; barely any evidence of it being shot inside or out. Paid $600 for it. With what SKS rifles in general are going for, and especially what the shorty "paratrooper" versions are selling for, that seemed like a "good" price in today's market. It makes a great twin to my other SKSS, but that one doesn't have the bayonet.  I paid $575 for that one.  I love these paras... have a regular barrel length Norinco sporter and a Yugo 59/66 also but these shorties are so handy.

You didn't do so bad, fair to middlin price. It'll be a real good deal if you discover the bolt face and hammer as new, then you scored!!!. I luvs me some Paratrooper, congrates, PAX

Thanks Pax! While the bolt face had a minor amount of powder residue on it (wiped off with a finger), there is no "primer ring" visible on it, no wear on the face and no wear on the hammer.  The firing pin rattles completely freely.  Also still has the cleaning kit in the stock!

I think that's a fair price for such a fine specimen.

Great find. Not that long ago regular Paras were fetching $1200 + here in Kali, and I've never seen an "S" in the wild.
On another note "Hiker", I've backpacked all over the Sierra and have gotten to Yosemite at least once a year since '68 except when the plague shut everything down in '20-'21. Got enough gear to put 27 folks on the dirt and had an extensive pack crew from 2004 to 2014, a few free clmbers and rock hounds. PAX

Nice Rifle. I picked up my first SKS-S back in 1989. If I remember right it was $129! I wish I'd bought a dozen now! It's been my truck gun since and has ridden with me for over 300,000 miles. It's a reliable shooter with OK accuracy. I can hold 100 yd groups to 3 to 4 inches. It now resides in a Tapco stock to save/protect the wood but I can swap it back to original in 1/2 hr or so. I have better shooting SKS's but it's that Para that rides with me!
