« on: October 23, 2024, 06:43:18 PM »
looking at a early 59 C  prefix for sn... very clean all matching to include stock
it's only down side is someone swapped out sights...using existing holes in front and put in a red fiber optic?....and rear is a peep which, with rear sight leaf removed slides under leaf cross pin....
my question is are these early sights hard to find...pre 66 so no grenade/ adjustable gas port....ball park on overall value
thanks for any input

Virtually non-existent. A Chinese might work or any other com-bloc blade unit you may find. They're worth Russian bank un-messed with. As it sits???? PAX

Hard to say on value without the pics. I'd ask the seller if he has the OEM rear leaf around otherwise, I'd probably try and find a Russian on over a Chinese. Russian or Chinese setup should work for the front.

Sfal,

The rifle in question did not have a chrome bore like most SKS rifles, so although a robust version, it is one of the least desirable except for as a collector. The odd thing is only Russian early rifles and Yugos lack chrome bores, and they are the only country IIRC to make corrosive ammo.

Sometimes a bad combo, some still have minty bores.
