What Bayonet do I need?
« on: October 24, 2024, 07:20:19 PM »
Without comparing to my M-59/66, I saw where Liberty Tree called these out as being blade stocks. I thought my HG retainer notch was blade too.

Side by side though:

Is it like a Paratrooper blade? Or am I just screwed with the shallow notch?

What you have is a lower front stock ferrule for a spike bayonet on what I assume is a Chinese Type 56 SKS. The phenolic stock is for a Chinese blade bayonet. There is no difference in the length of the bayonet cutout in the stock between a standard SKS and a paratrooper. All of the modification was done on the length of the bayonet itself. If you want to maintain that stock and add a blade bayonet you just need to find a Chinese blade bayonet assembly and then notch out the ferrule to a V to accommodate for the blade. A Yugo M59/66 bayonet assembly will not work on any other SKS.

BTW, welcome to the boards.

Also, to add, the correct stock and bayonet setup would be for a spike bayonet assembly. Then there is the question of whether you have a threaded or a pinned barrel.

It looks like the stock doesn't match the rifle cutout and may have been switched at some point, but like Greatguns said, you can just notch the ferrule into a V and it will work with the blade bayonet.

BTW KalashniKEV, you should go to the introduction forum and introduce yourself.  This is a great site with a lot of very knowledgeable members.  I think you'll like it here.

OK, I made an intro thread. Mods please don't delete.

I did fit the Jungle stock to a Chinese SKS that had been bubbah'd up to the maximum.

I did not know that parts are now 10x more expensive than 20 years ago!

On the Bayonet issue though- even if I did notch the retainer to allow the blade edge to get closer to the cleaning rod, the channel itself ends nowhere-close-to the magazine cutout. I don't think it would retract.

Unfortunately, the eBay guy I got the M-59/66 bayonet from doesn't take returns... so that was dumb on my part for not asking here first.

Or are you guys saying that the Yugoslavian bayonet is longer than all Chinese bayonets?

Yes, M59/66 bayonet is it's own beast and longer than other blade bayonets.

I put a longer 59/66 blade on a Chinese rifle in a TAPCO T6 blade cut stock, the slot was long enough. The longer blade fit and gave the Bubba gun a little flair. It's the obvious plastic black rifle. It was actually C&R by numbers so I put in a cracked stock and sold all 3 rifles on the fellas C&R. PAX
