Quick legal question just to be safe
« on: February 03, 2012, 09:47:12 AM »
I'm pretty sure my new Yugo with its Dragunov is already out of compliance but here's what I want to do:

Replace:
1) Dragunov with a TAPCO or ATI
2) American made Muzzle Break
3) Original 10 rd with Tapco 20 or 30rd Magazine

Do the muzzle breaks just screw off? And would this make me compliant?

Thanks

The drag stock is very likely US-made.  So if you like it, keep it.  The swaps you've articulated should make you 922(r) compliant.

The muzzle brake is pinned after it's screwed on.  You'll need to drive out the pin and then unscrew it.

Thanks. I like the look of the Dragunov but not so much the feel. In addition to other things, it is very hard to use the iron sights with my see thru and I want a forend grip.

When I replace the muzzle break, do I have to remove any parts of the grenade launcher?

I'm not clear here on what you are asking. If there is a muzzle brake on it, the grenade launcher would have been removed to install it.
Here's a shot of the original equipment (OE) GL:

If yours looks like this:

It could be simply a drilled OE GL, or it could be a USA made replacement. You'll have to look for the markings for mfg and "Made in USA", etc..
If it's OE, drilled or not, plenty of PB Blaster soaking, drive out the pin, and screw it off.
www.surplusrifle.com used to have a good tutorial, but they seem to be down  :banghead:

Hey man, you're not an idiot; a lot of this stuff can be pretty confusing at first, especially with all the different variants of the rifle, and the fact that on different rifles different terms can occasionally mean different things......
