Adjustable Rear AK Sight
« on: March 13, 2014, 01:57:32 AM »
I don't know about you guys, but I hate having a front sight post that is not centered. It bothers the crap out of me. Furthermore I am not a huge fan of the commie rear adjustable sight either (maybe I should just be more open minded). Anyway I stumbled across a new windage adjustable rear sight online while watching a review of the Century C39. Has anybody used one of these kinds of sights before? I like how it is as thin as a traditional AK sight. If I decide to stay in AKs, I would like to outfit mine with these sights.

I have never liked the AK  or any combloc blade sights anyway.

I simply put an RPK rear sight on mine.  The notch is slightly wider than the standard AK rear sight.

Was that easy to change over? or should I take to a gunsmith to do? What kind of tools do I need? I also dont like the stock sights.  I'm good with tools and mechanicly incline.

It just takes a screwdriver and 4 hands. :)

The front of the sight sits has tabs on each side that sit in a channel, depress the spring enough it will slide out.  Sounds much easier than it is because you have to hold it and finagle the sight and depress the spring at the same time.  There is a tool out that helps, but its still can be bear sometimes

Is it any harder than replacing a Mosin's rear sight?

I don't know, never did a Mosin, but if its the same leaf spring and slot retention type deal its probably similar.

My front sight are pretty much on target, it's just so small the notch on the WASR, would like something a little wider. Any other options besides a RPK rear sight?

Sorry to revive an old posting...
But, Lone Eagle, you said that you replaced your rear sight with an RPK rear sight and I had a couple questions.

Did you put this on a Centurion C-39?
Where did you buy yours?

I ask because I am going to do the same swap but I do not know which RPK sight will fit/ work.
I have seen ones that go up to 8 and others go up a bunch more and are much longer.
I was told the one with 8 notches will fit, but I need someone that has actually put one on to say whether or not it will work.

I found a Bulgarian RPK rear sight with 8 notches at K-Var.
I almost bought it, but at $63, I wanted to be 110% sure.

I am also looking to buy the Bulgarian recoil spring assembly too as I hear the C-39 has one that is supposedly not correct.
Someone on youtube had one break. Not sure if it was just a one in thousands instance, but a backup part/ spare would be nice.

Any help is appreciated!

I like the RPK rear sight, another option is Tech Sights has a replacement front sight that is .045" and is only $5, which gives you some light around your front post to make it easier to focus on.

Get a Dremel with a thin wheel on it and make the slot a little wider  Take your time and do it
