Turns out I waited til Saturday to test out the Korean drum (life happens). It ran ok until about 15 rounds left and it ran out of umph. Maybe I didn't wind it up enough, dunno. The instructions said not to over tighten it so it's possible. I opened it and checked it then after closing, I wound it up and it finished fine.

I really like it but man, you can go through ammo quickly. With the dot and the drum, you can do some serious precision damage.

Each drum will be slightly different but for the most part most should fully feed with 7-8 half rotations of the key.

Do you recall how many times you winded it up?

Didn't really keep count, just followed instructions. I'll pay closer attention next time. I'm hoping I just didn't wind it enough.

I have the Romanian back loading drum, I’d been told not to wind them up more than 4 times for max spring life. 4 winds USUALLY gets me thru 75 rounds but I usually start with 4 and give it two more winds halfway thru.

Those Korean drums are junk. I returned two of them to Classic after they both jammed and had a very
loose fit and wobble. The Red Army Standard Romanian drums are the best for the money. I got mine from
SGAmmo.com for $89 each plus shipping. Not one jam in either one and they really fit tight in my WASR.

No jamming or wobble with this one. Hopefully I just didn't wind it up enough.

It's my understanding that the Korean drums are Chinese manufactured without the Chinese origin stamp. They started doing this some years ago when Chinese drums were banned from import. So China sells them to Korea and Korea sells them to us. These wind up drums are far more convenient to use than the Romanian ones that don't open. And they've become cheaper even with a middle man.

I think the proper amount to wind the drum is 3.5 turns. If that doesn't work for you I'll look through my gear for the directions. I recently moved so my stuff is lost in boxes right now, but I have a bunch of those drums still in original packaging somewhere. Directions should be in there.

From what I understand, if it comes from Korea it was actually made in China. They lie about this to allow importation into the US.

This has come full circle. I guess the guy didn't lie to me in a round about way.  :)  I'm glad to hear they are actually the good Chinese ones.

Now if I could find a good type III wood stock set for reasonable, I would be happy.

If I remember somebody on this site, compared it to the Chinese version and the SK are thinner..

There are Romanian back opening versions..

I have both ROM and an original Chinese drum...
