Russian sks and ca questions
« on: September 06, 2013, 10:16:35 PM »
I have been doing a lot of reading on gun laws in the last few days. The more I read the more confused I am getting.  I don't have any plans on making changes on my gun but I am concerned about having a bayonet if I ever run across any type of law enforcement.  The other thing I have been curious and confused about is a detachable magazine. Would it or could it be made CA legal if it is 10 rounds or less?

IIRC, an SKS that uses detachable magazines (of any size) is prohibited in California.  As for the bayonet, I'll have let others weigh in.

An SKS with Bayonet is OK in California. But, you cannot have any detachable magazine at all.
Not a 5 round, 10 round, 20 round or 30 round. If you put one on in California, they will prosecute you if they find out. Big penalties out there if you do.

Thanks for the help. This brings up one more question? Does it matter if the bayonet is a spike or a blade? Or is a bayonet just considered a bayonet no matter what type it is?

There's nothing as compelling as a bad idea whose time has come.

And being stocked by OO isn't a bad thing at all; his 'seconds' are better than a lot of 'firsts' when it comes to rifles...heh heh

Just curious because California likes to complicate simple things and the local law enforcement believes in shoot first investigate later.  I was planning on going out to the local BLM range Saturday morning but the plans fell through.  I was just trying to stay out of trouble as I have had a previous run in with a ranger that didn't turn out so good.

Laws are deliberately written vaguely so that in the future they may be interpreted broadly.
