Mak-90 Slant Cut Receiver Stock help?
« on: April 27, 2014, 02:45:52 PM »
Hello,

I picked up a mak-90 with the slant cut receiver and want to change out the buttstock. However, I'm not real versed in what I would need to do so? I am wanting to put the adapter that accepts AR buffertubes/buttstocks, just don't kn ow how to go about doing so.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I checked google, but the terminology was throwing me off, so I decided to ask here.

One place says Ironwood designs is the only place that makes a stock that fits, another says you have to weld, and all this stuff.

Only owned WASR 10's before, so the Mak-90 is new territory for me.

I essentially want to be able to put an AR-15 buffertube/buttstock onto the AK. While I was googling, it was of longer tang, shorter tang, slant, straight, this works, one tang, 2 tang, milled stamped and all this fun stuff.

When I found parts, I'm not just quite exactly sure how to tell if they work with a Mak-90 with the slant cut or not, but thanks for the links guys.

Apparently your googlefu is stronger than mine.

The folding ar collapsible types are out there. Many in fact.

Get a hold of Benny429 here on the boards via his website milsurpstuff.com and ask for that. Let him know the sksboards sent you and I think he's got a discount still for us. This one lets you add in your own tube and stock.

Benny has the buffer tube in stock says it fits all stamped receivers. The discount he offered is for board supporters.

I've donated a few times but never got the handle, but its not a real biggie to me. It's nice of Benny to offer but I don't mind paying full price! He's a good guy and deserves it!

EDIT:

BTW, thanks for the help guys! AK's aren't really in my knowledge base and still trying to learn about them!

Something to keep in mind, the Bonesteel Arms has the hinge closer to the receiver of all of the folding mechanisms that don't require cutting the tang off.  When they are folded they are nice and compact, where some folding stocks have what feels like a lot hanging off the back.

I'll definitely keep that in mind, thanks OP!

This might be way out of date but...    FWIW    I have seen and used close-up an IRONWOOD solid stock on a MAK90. Turns the MAK into a top of the line better-than-many AK instead of a bastardised "What's it". Very nice and made it into the semi auto pre-Bush rifle it was made to be. Well worth the money, I'd say and looked really good with no parts hang off the back, no welding or other monkey-bizzness. Strong and cut to fit the slant cuts. Strong and doesnt look like an abortion. IMO
The MAK 90 is a well made and strong AK especially with the forged receiver. I carried one on an Ozark hog hunt... only complaint is the over-all weight of the weapon...
