New Production WASR

Got into a huge debate with my buddy who just recently purchased a Century RAS47. I have a new production WASR in the mail right now and he said that for the money the RAS was better. After a heated debate of why cast parts are not milspec he said that all WASRs that come in the country are not even milspec anyway because they filed military inspection in Romanian.

I knew that the old WASR 10/63 were rejected military rifles but I still got one and it has served me well for years. I knew that just because something failed inspection did not mean that it was still not built to military spec. But that did get met thinking - are the new WASR rifles Romanian rejects or are they fit for service? I would be a bit concerned if they had so many rejects from new production rifles to fill an entire market in the US with enough supply.

Ask him what military uses the RAS47.

And for the money... uh... they're priced about the same. For the same, with the WASR, you're getting CL CHF barrel. For the money, the Mighty WASR always wins.

Cast parts are used in milspec AR15's there is an entire thread going on over on another site right now and a factory in Poland has confirmed it. That being said Cugar has been making military grade rifles for decades VS Century's whole 2 years in the AK game. The 1st GWB RAS has received fitment issues which Century confirmed to be true. The 2nd GWB resolved those however users have been reporting abnormally fast wear on key parts like the bolt, hammer, as well as a reported and proven fracked from trunion within the 1st 300 rounds.

Like it or not Century is new to the AK production game and they are going to have a lot of growing pains and those pains are going to be felt buy the buyers of their AK's. What they did do right was make sure to flood all of the most popular YouTube channels with their rifles and ammo too ensure we hear about them 500 times a week.

Would I buy one? Nope I would not until they are proven reliable for thousands and thousands of rounds.

I'll vote Wasr as well. I bought one recently and it's got tight tolerances. Built very well in my opinion, more so than they used to be. Plus theyre built overseas, which gives it a cool factor over the RAS47. Why on earth would anyone want an American built AK?

Don't worry about it. The WASR furniture and receiver are not military.  The inspection level or acceptance may not be either. If it works., shoot & enjoy.
The jury is still out on the USA made AK types.
Cast parts on firearms., milspec and not., are quite common.

Good points Hodgie, in my original post I should have stressed that my biggest concern was of cast front trunions. I know that there are a lot of cast parts on military rifles floating around out there but I was unaware of cast front truions on AKs in military use.

Another vote for wasr. The new wasr 10's are actually good to go. I have no room in my safe for an american made ak.

My 10/63 will do 2" groups at 100 yards, the newer wasr10 3+1/2" groups.  Thats was with russian current production ammo.  With a scope on the rail.   Both have been totally reliable!!!

I have a WASR-10 and a WASR-10/63. Both are very dependable and accurate. The 10/63 is a "de-milled" Romanian military rifle. Not a "reject".

I bought a Wasr 10/63-mv about 9 years ago and have put a lot of rounds threw it with no problems what so ever.
It has the Tapco g2 trigger that is real smooth.
Wouldn't trade it for anything.

My worst firearm mistake was selling my WASR 10/63 to a good friend about 7 yrs ago.  It was my first AK & in retrospect, probably the best.  I mistakenly thought it was less of an AK because of the lack of mag well dimples in a stamped receiver.  I have a new WASR 10 inbound from Atlantic tomorrow....for $300 more than I paid for the 10/63.  My friend still has the 10/63 as his only AK because, as he says, "there's no need for another".

If it helps ..They are a limited run ..Once they are gone probly it for a while ..Century is trying to push there RAS and crap guns before imports so..

Oh and PS unlike other WSAR these dont have a bayonet lug ..From what I understand Century adds one after import due to import laws ...But as this was so limited they did not bother
