Gap on barrel
« on: January 19, 2016, 11:56:25 AM »
Hey everybody, Im new to owning an ak 47 and recently I picked up the RAS 47 by century arms. I've shot it a good bit and everything seems fine until today I noticed a small gap on the barrel at the gas block, I do know that the gap at the gas tube was there, but i just noticed the gap on the barrel. Is there any chance something is moving? or is this normal?

Almost looks like the pin is too high in the gas block so that it is not contacting the barrel to keep the block in place. Therefore, the gas block is walking forward on you. May be just the camera angle, but unless the entire barrel is walking out of the trunnion, I suspect it is the gas block. Either way you will need to send it back to CAI or have a gunsmith look at it locally.(may not be safe to shoot anymore)

Apparently those are not very well made Rifles. I'd send it back quick for repair or refund.

Unless you are seeing bare metal at the rear of the gas block  it is not moving etc., The gap you see is the step up in the barrel diameter behind the gas block journal which is a smaller diameter.

There does look like a gap at the gas tube. Is it becoming loose and movement etc?  That could be a sign of gas block movement.

Attached is a barrel diagram print.  Area marked N6 is the gas block journal. You can note that it steps up from the barrel size to the front and goes up again in size at the rear of the journal for the gas block. The journal is always slightly longer than the actual gas block to allow for fitment variations. It is a press or interference fit and pinned in place.

ooops forgot the attachment>>>

 and here I was thinking century just made history... Whats weird though is the gas tube is as solid as ever. Like i said before the gap at the gas tube was there from the beginning but I don't know why I would have just noticed the gap at the barrel maybe I just overlooked it and just now seeing it? But anyway I think im going to email century and ask them if this is how its suppose to look and if not I might just be in the market for a new AK... again  :banghead: But for the moment im just gonna keep an eye on her and see if anything noticeable happens
