AK74 mags...

anyone have trouble with some of these ?

the russian and east german ag4 (orange bakelite) mags are always flawless.

the bulgarian black plastic mags seem to feed slow, or something.
i know that it's softer than the ag4.

am i the only one expierencing this ?

any other 5.45 mags that you may reccomend.

i love the ag4, just not the orange color. they look funny on a plum rifle.

I have not had any probs with any of My 74 mags. I have the  orange E.German, Black Bulgie, Brown Bulgie and Fire brick Red Bulgie mags, and all have worked perfectly. I personally like the look of the fire brick red ones in My side folder.

I've never experienced issues with any of my mags either.

Have you checked the spring tension on that mag? perhaps your mag spring is weak.

i have a bunch of them (all from k-var) abd all seem to have intermitent feeding problems.
weird.
i should prolly polish the feed ramp anyway.

If all your mags are doing it I'd say it's the rifle not the mags. Specifically, the BUILD of teh rifle. Check adn polish your feed ramp, billet guide and chamber. HTH~

it's only the plastic mags, not the ag4 bakelite's.

with bakelight zero failures, with plastic intermitent failures to feed.

Which would lead me to beleive that the billet guide was not rvited in correct shape to the new receiver [or likewise, the new receiver was not fitted correctly to the billet guide]. Thus, one "size" mag would be "in spec" adn nother would be "out fo spec". Who did your build? HTH~

damn....

you just reinforced my theory. a local shop built it for me.
i had a few problems when it was first built.
the main problem was he used a 7.62 reciever, then he tried to tell me they were the same, when i knew the ejctors were different.
so he built up the 7.62 ejector to eject 5.45.

oh well, prolly not much i can do but use the bakelite mags.

it's a pity too, this bulgy is a fantastic shooter.

your options would be;

1- keep using bakelite mags- they work
2- send it to a smith [recomend Ken Kubin] to ahev him rework receiver-would be a plausible fix, though ti could contain otherr "issues"
3- for just a about another $100 over the "fix", you could rebuild the kit with a correct OOW 5.45 receiver, again, recomend Ken Kubin.

Cheapest of the three is option 1. HTH~

thanks, redbear.
i'll stick to option 1. too poor to fix it right and the rifle is flawless with the bakelites.

For what it's worth, every bakelite mag I've used has worked just fine in my bulgarian 74.  It was built off a 7.62 receiver.

I've had to file down part of the lip that catches the mag release lever before they'd lock into place, but other than that, I've had no problems.
