Front sight windage pin stuck.
« on: December 27, 2005, 07:33:39 PM »
My WASR-10's front sight pin will not move. I even bent a Tapco sight tool trying to drift the pin over. It looks like they staked the pin to the sight housing. Anyone else have the problem or know of a fix??

Did you try to apply some heat?  Hit it with a propane torch and some WD-40 or penetration oil (use caution as that will ignite).

I got it soaking in Kroil right now. Did some searches after I posted and the problem is more common than I thought. My Norinco SKS has  the same problem but it shoots POA at 50 yards so no problem then.

They are tight -they have to be or they'd drift during fire.

Alot of the tools sold to move the sight drum just bust when you try to use them.

I use the Harley-Davidson method:

Lay the front of the gun, the sight base (on the barrel, of course) on a nice block of hardwood on the ground, held solidly...

Then, WACK THE HELL OUT OF IT in the appropriate direction with a good sized BRASS hammer. It will move (a little lube is a decent idea during the process).

Steel wool, lightly oiled, will remove the brass marks off the sight just fine.

The H-D method has never failed me on dozens of such drifting jobs.

Remember, the chinese AK & SKS has a CENTER MARK on the top of the drum seen from the front of the sight  -you can guage movement by watching this ( the chinese usually zero'd the windage on these pretty darn well as made).

Have fun!

I've seen on the WSARs...the factory "true marks" (don't know what the proper term is)----if you look at the front of the site from the muzzle, you see a verticle line scored over the sight pin and the base....know what I'm talkin bout now?

Well, I've seen some with excessive flashing between where the mark on the sight pin meets the sight base. This maybe on your gun, and might be whats jamming the pin. Try the BFH and brass drift method to break the flashing loose.

Just to add and this may not be "your case" but some of those "C" clamp tools have a hole that just doesn't want to sit right and accept the incomming front sight barrel.

If need be open up the hole or remove a bit of metal off of one of the legs on the tool so that the open hole aligns itself perfectly with the sight barrel.
