Optics Planet
« on: October 22, 2015, 09:21:01 PM »
I have ordered from them without issue until recently.

Recently I ordered a red dot from Optics Planet. A very expensive red dot; Trijicon MRO. I guess since the last time ordered something from them, they have changed their standard free shipping to a situation where UPS ships it to the local US Post office in your town and the post office deliver it. Well, the local US Post office sent my red dot back to Optics Planet and said they couldn't deliver it. OK I get, stuff happens. However, optics planet has zero concern that I get my red dot. I called them weekly to find out they had received it so they could send to me via FedEx. Two weeks into the limbo situation I found myself in, I called them again. I asked them what would happen if they never received the red dot back. Their answer was they would open a claim. I asked them if that meant they would ship me another red dot. The answer was no. I would have to wait for the claim to be processed by the US Post office. In short, I was SOL. So I cancelled my order.

They are still holding onto my money until the red dot arrives. However, I'm calling my bank and telling them I never received my order. I'll get my money back that way.

At no time did any of the optics planet people try to make me happy. No offers of 5%, 10% and percent on future orders. No offers of free swag. Not even a free sticker or decal Nothing! Nada! In failing to do anything to make me happy they have lost a customer that spends a good amount of money on  gun related stuff every year. Over the last 3 years I have spent approximately $1,500.00 with them. Well, no longer. I didn't expect Optics Planet to fall all over themselves, but they could have done something to make me happy.

I can't understand the advantage these business's think that they have, using this Fedex" Smartpost" and whatever other ones basically just take it down to the Post Office and mail it. It aggravates the hell out of me when I check tracking and it says "delivered to local post office, two to three day delays may occur"...I send them emails letting them know that I will never order from them again except as a last resort just due to this ignorance. They obviously pay more, as FedEx isn't going to lose money on the deal, so why not just send it USPS to start with? I don't know, gotta be some sort of kickback or maybe just more convenient for them in some way. When you get caught up in the "lost package" crap they know you don't have it, they should send you another one. Although I have had in the past, packages that were marked by USPS as returned to me later on delivered to the purchaser, but only after I shake the tree to find out where it is exactly after an ungodly length of time...

Is it the company or the carrier service? I know that UPS signed a milti million dollar deal with USPS which allows USPS to deliver local leg of the package.

Both Fed ex and UPS have contracted the USPS for final delivery on value shipping options.

Places that are typically the lowest price often suffer customer service issues, this is nothing new.  I  have ordered from Optics planet many times, had to returns things at times, its when you have to deal with them out of their automated system is when things go south.  I always figure that's the gamble when dealing with them, if I want peace of mind, I will pay more for it and shop elsewhere.

Contact your CC and have them reverse the charge back to Optics P. Tell them, NO delivery of purchased item. You WILL get a call from OP and they will want to know why you charged them back, Be polite and tell them. Suddenly, they will want to be your best friend.

I had this happen only once. Seems that by using both UPS and USPS, they are able to restart the delivery clock at each hand off. Delaying delivery. I told the seller, if they ever did that to me again, I was through as a customer. They marked my account "single carrier only". Either UPS or USPS door to door. NOT both.

Good luck and let us know what you do and how it turns out.

I've only orders from them through Amazon for one of their OPMOD bags which was free delivery through prime. I am always turned off by their web site format in general it's a mess too look at and annoying to navigate.

I have no problem with the deliver method. Sh*t happens.

It's that they don't care on bit how long I have to wait in limbo. There is a saying in sales, "It takes three new customers to replace a current customer". Optics planet just lost a current customer. I wasn't expecting them to hand me a 50% off coupon. However, what would it have cost them to through me a 10% coupon on my next order? Plus, why exactly can't they just ship me another Trijicon MRO?
