Nice.

Interesting you should post this, I recently saw an episode of Forged in Fire where the gunsmiths were tasked with harvesting parts from a wrecked car and making a knife out of that, and they all chose to work on the spring steel as they found it would be the best for a knife.
I am the one they call Cesar.

 Many folks don't know this, but a lot of the real-deal Kukri's  are made from truck leaf springs;

 That knife you made came out pretty nice, thanks for posting! 8)

Mercedes trucks to be more specific due to the better steel. The real kukris are built like tanks. Mine is one of my favorite knives.

Moth the knife looks good. Reminds me of some of the ESEE designs. How long did it take you to make?

What quench process are you using? Iirc leaf springs are 1068 or similar steel.

on the first quench I used vegetable oil, guess it was too light; second time around I used motor oil 10w40 and then hardened it more at oven temp at 400 degrees for an hour I mostly learn as I go and had to ask my friend what could've cause it to crack . he gave me 3; cooled to quick, to light of an oil or water got on the blade while forging.

Preheat your quenching oil to 250-300 degrees before quenching. Otherwise you can cool your blade too quickly. Veg oil should work just fine.

The only real difference in mineral Vs vegetable oil quenching is the price unless you use grease. I've heard of beer, brine, water, and lard all being used also.

next time I will try that, heating the oil a little bit might be the trick Im looking for. i have used other quenching methods before like what you said; but beer? that is very interesting, i wonder what beer would do and if would give the blade a different temper;Im going to have to try that one. might have a problem of not licking the blade afterwards :compress: \:D/ :drunken: :drunken: :drunken:
