Crossbow hunting
« on: June 27, 2018, 12:42:00 PM »
Has anyone ever hunted with one of these?  Its a PSE Tac elite, I bought two for target shooting and I am going to hunt with them this year. Just looking for feedback one way or the other. For target shooting these are unmatched from what I've seen and heard.  For hunting, while they aren't for walking the bush, they seem perfect for sniping from a treeline or such.

PSE was state of the art back in 2008ish. It was mind blowing to see a xbow shoot over 300fps at the time. Now, they're rather antiquated. The length and balance issues get old quick. Due to length, they can be a real chore to shoot in a pop-up blind or tree stands. Proprietary bolts are a real PITA to find. Understand spine. Consider getting a spine tester. Arrows/bolts that long, under that kind of power, have a real consistency issue with spine. Learn to shoot without the bipod. Xbows recoil forward and up. Bench rests an bipods cause a harmonic issue and make the bolt wobble as it leaves the barrel. Learn to shoot off hand. Site in on the bench, with a rolled up blanket underneath. You need some kind of cushion (your arm is fine) to absorb the recoil bounce.

When you are dead, you don't know you are dead. It is difficult only for the others. It is the same when you are stupid.

I appreciate the info, didn't know that.  We've noticed arrow wobble. I've shot out to 118 yrds so far, at 100yds its very accurate, groupings of a couple inches. If you don't lube the arrows though, even at 100yrds you better be strong cause damn they're hard to pull out.

Fun stuff
