The previous owner(my dad) of my rifle had removed the riveted bayonet, placed it in an ATI folding stock, installed a muzzle brake and bipod but thankfully still had the original stock. He had lost the bayonet, cleaning rod, and cleaning kit.
It took a little searching, but I was able to locate and acquire the needed parts to put it back into it's original configuration.
The stock was in good shape overall, but the finish was completely destroyed. I committed "old gun adultery" by stripping the remaining finish with a chemical stripper, smoothing the surface with 0000 steel wool and finishing it with Tung oil. The wood will be well preserved and less susceptible to damage, but the color is very light compared to the original.
Even so, I get compliments on it each time it goes to the range. I get nice groups shooting surplus ammo out to 100 yards and even with my poor vision can consistently hit a man sized target in the vital area @ 200 yards. It has become my favorite rifle.
You may find the mods to be fun for a while, but at least they can be undone. I did not even try shooting mine in the folding stock. Just seemed to have too much play. The wood stock is more stable if accuracy is a goal, IMO. I did add a Yugo style butt pad to give it a little more length which makes shooting it a pleasure.
Not sure about the muzzle brake you have there, but the one my dad had on this rifle used setscrews which left some small marks on the barrel after it was removed.
