Couple questions
« on: March 29, 2022, 12:38:03 PM »
Hello,  new to the boards, this is my second post.  I have had a Chinese SKS for many years.  Bought it at a gun show for $79.  I have never done a thing to the rifle and it has always functioned perfectly.  Very accurate and just fun to shoot.  Anyway, I want to make sure the gun is safe and have been reading about the positive, negative and neutral hammer position on the sear.  I removed my trigger assembly and put it in my vice, cocked the hammer and depressed the disconnect lever and pull the trigger to see if the hammer moves.  The trigger lever does not seem to engage the sear.  The trigger just pulls all the way back without pushing the sear out from under the hammer.  Works fine in the rifle but cannot get the trigger to push the sear when out of the rifle.  What am I doing wrong here?

I installed the Bad Ace mount at the rear sight.  It seams like a good mount, very solid.  Does anyone have any recommendations on a red dot site that would work well in that position?

I look forward to your input.  Thanks!

Disconnector pushes down the trigger bar for contact with the sear.
Push not enough or push too far and it don't.
Inspection hole on side of Trigger group shows alignment with sear.

Trigger bar can actually go under sear and not do anything.

okay, that's what I was thinking.  For sure if I push too far on the disconnector the trigger bar definitely goes under the sear.  I didn't know about the inspection hole, I will take a look at that.  Thanks!

Also, the dis-connector is pushed down just enough to 'activate' the trigger by the bolt when it is put forward into battery position. Put the trigger group back into your rifle, remove the receiver cover and recoil spring, either remove the firing pin or use a dummy round so as not to dry fire(if that is a concern) and, with the bolt/carrier in battery, depress the trigger while watching the hammer. Positive engagement will cause the hammer to move slightly rearward before it is released. Neutral engagement the hammer will remain still until released, and negative engagement the hammer moves forward slightly before release.

Okay, another question please.  I have removed the stock magazine and now the bolt will not lock in the rear position to accept the removable magazine.  I have to physically hold the bolt back and engage the magazine in order to get it clipped in.  Is this typical when the stock magazine is removed or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for the help.

Mag follower activates the Bolt hold open.
Fixed mag with no rounds and follower pushes up on BHO.
When you have No mag installed the BHO has to be manually activated to hold the bolt back.

Once the BHO is activated (last round) then you can change mags.  Bump the bolt back to charge.

How do you manually activate the BHO?

Hold bolt back, lift BHO with finger, tongue, or other part :)

Yeah, I figured it out Rocket, thanks.  Saw a couple Youtube videos of people attaching a rod to the BHO to allow them to engage the BHO from the trigger area instead of just reaching in the mag well with a finger.  Didn't make much sense to me to go through all that trouble when its pretty simple to just use a finger to lift it up.  There was also a video of cutting the ears off of a bolt so a magazine would insert in the well without pulling the bolt back.  That seems like a lot of customization also when you can just reach in easily and raise the BHO.  Oh well, always ways to customize I suppose.  Thanks for the help on this.
