Leupold Deltapoint Micro as SKS red dot?
« on: January 31, 2024, 01:58:07 AM »
I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how to get a red dot on an SKS low enough to cowitness (it's an OCD thing, I know you could theoretically get a quick detach mount for a red dot) and I don't even think milling the rear sight base down and TIG welding an RMR plate would work.

I came across the Leupold Deltapoint Micro:

And immediately thought of the 90 degree angle on the dust cover, and thought that if mounted at the correct height, if the battery dies the straw-like tube could become your rear sight.

Now, I know the dust cover isn't an ideal place to mount this, but I'm really hoping there's a way to make it work.  Maybe bed the dust cover?

Well if the mounting system doesn't have adjustments, you could use it like ghost rings and practice with it so you know where the POI is vs POA. After the first shot, instinctively the follow up should ring home. If you have a place to shoot, set up a chunk of cardboard, at least 25 yards out (can be interpolated to distance) and see where it prints with the Red Dot off. That should give you an eye ball where your minute of pie plate lives. I like ghost rings with my poor eyesight, PAX
