SKS-M vs Slightly bubba'd Paratrooper...
« on: October 20, 2025, 01:24:54 PM »
This is just a grins and giggles thread so...
If you could only keep one which would you keep? (think all around use;deer hunting, zombies, etc)

First we have a slightly bubba'd paratrooper w/neutered FSB, refinished no number stock, and non-matching OEM mag.
Second is an as imported SKS_M in the box (such as it is) w/all accessories, 2-5rnd flat back mags and 2-20rnd Hungarian tanker mags.
Each is probably equally as accurate as the other and have about the same configuration attributes with the only real differences being 1)the shorter gas system on the M and, 2) AK mags as opposed to stripper clips. Both are using iron sights and are equally adaptable to scope use so, hunting would be a draw probably. M is worth more, but a little heavier and packing mags would also be a little heavier than stripper clips. Other than those things, what do you all think? Which one? Here's some pics of each

If you need the most cash, sell the M.

If you're looking to keep the best rifle, sell the Paratrooper.

That's a nice bubba, but I'd keep the M.

If I could only keep one and the other had to go, I absolutely keep the M.

I have a para set up just like that and I love it.  I have a parts bin M that has been languishing in a box for several years and I really need to build that one.  That's an awful nice M, I would keep that for sure.

Is the black Para a K-sport with the bayo channel filled in by chance? If so it's a shame it looks like that. They're scarce in wood without the "nowhere" rail. Should be numbered to the rifle as well, PAX
Here's one I've got without the rail notch.

I was thinking it was a B-West, but re-looked and it is a KSI so stock could be original. Pretty sure it was painted black and the butt-pad added by bubba though with the pad being a Winchester brand.

An update for everyone, I ended up selling the black one and kept the M. I found out US Milsurp 100 round utility pouches work great for 20rnd AK mags, you can fit 4 into 1 pouch.  :)

Great setup. I always wanted an M but with a notched bolt to facilitate stripper clips, if that's even possible. I do like me some AK mags but the size and weight restraint win goes to the fixed mag and strippers. It's my pick for everything but all out combat (including zombies etc). You made a good choice though. Have fun with that sweet thang.
