Greetings from the nube.
First thing , I want to thank guys like Survivor, Ranger, Bulldog and the like for putting the time and effort in, for all of us, to keep this ship afloat and on course. I have a great deal to learn and this seems to be the spot for it.
My intro: a buddy asked me to look at his SKS. It had been ridden hard and put away wet. Corrosive ammo and no cleaning left a round stuck in the chamber and him with no hope. After fixing the issue I stripped it down, cleaned it extensively, re-blued it, oiled it up and returned it.
I was so impressed with the simple, well engineered construction that I went out bought myself one.
I'm not a purist; I believe people's stuff should be how people like it. That said I've pulled both sights, installed a red dot, threaded it for a muzzle brake for better follow-up and wrapped it in an ATI Strikeforce stock. It's in parts in my shop but I'll post a picture or two when it's done.
Rest at ease, my future posts will be more concise but this was my intro so there you go.
