Roadkill, I 'm in the same boat. I love the Tapco mags, they are the best, period. I restocked a couple of my SKS's in fiberglass Chinese stocks which the Tapcos happen to fit perfectly. This system works very fast after performing the bolt modification. I can see little improvement over this for me now.

Now, if I was new to this it might be a very tempting modification to perform. Its good to see people using their heads and making this rifle more versatile.

Guys, This DOES use the standard Tapco 20 duckbill mags, MINUS the duckbill. You cut the duckbill off YOUR mags leaving a short "tab" instead. You can store them in a vest, pack, bag, whatever. The duckbill goes away, you keep the mag and it's great functionality.

Hi Marcus

I understand this uses the Tapco mags. I guess what I'm saying is that for me, it might be a superflous mod. For others, maybe this is the path they should take.

I found a tiny little green canvas bag at some surplus store and it holds 12 Tapco 20's with no problem and is very easy to carry. So for me the storage aspect does not make any sense. I am used to changing out the duckbills now after doing the bolt mod, and can actually see some advantages in keeping the duckbill, like the ability to know right away that the mag is facing the correct direction when installing (like in the dark).

Will Tapco still honor their warranty on these modified mags?

Easy to carry????  Your name must be Rambo if you can carry 240 rounds "easily."      I can manage about half that and it's only "easy" for short distances.

Alright...so Im pretty interested. Im sure I will be asking some questions that have been answered elsewhere that I have missed. If so just give me a link or redirect me. So what we have is a product that installs "permanently" onto the rifle. After cutting off the duckbill and leaving a "tab" on the Tapco Magazines you are able to change mags with less fuss and fight? Basically just "click" them into place or will this still take some getting used to and an SKS will never load a mag as easy as an AR or other EBG??? If this is the instance where, when and how much can one be purchased?

Yeah galahad, noticed from the videos that you are indeed an "old fart" ... a very well conserved "old fart" though.

Better description maybe would be "vintage fart".

Nice videos BTW... nice product too!

I think it weighs less than 20 pounds loaded with 12 mags and has backpack straps so I can wear it. When I lived in Boston ans was working as a musician I used to lug an acoustic (upright) bass in bag (60 pounds and bulky!) cab (40 pounds) and bass amp (12 pounds). I would carry this a mile a day sometimes more than once. Just to point out that 240 rounds of ammo is not that heavy. Edited to add that I am still a youngin too and not all wore out!

Another point being of course if I need this much ammo I probably am SOL!

As I recall, a  grunt rifleman normally carried "out" about 15 - 20 round magazines... that's 300 rounds of 5.56mm Ball...

And a grunt rifleman was usually in his early 20s... and these guys sure didn't seem to think ammo wasn't heavy...

Installs semi permanent. Yes, you put it in and it stays in, but, you can remove it later if you want to.
Change is very easy, it is NOT the AR or AK style "pop" straight in, but more a rock-n-lock similar to the current duckbill load process. You still need to get the mag tab under the adapter to hold it in place. Go back and watch the first video. Galahad loads 2 mags. You will need to "practice" loading for maybe 5 mins to get the "feel" of how they latch. Notice the nice crisp "click" when he snaps the mag in place on the "how to install" video.

I'm offering them for 44.95 + 5.00 S/H. Includes the adapter, set screw and your choice of the cross pin (in the how to video) or a 1/8" steel pin (taps in place w/punch). I need to know if you will use a wood or polymer stock as they come in 2 sizes. I am taking pre orders now, 20.00 puts it on order for you, I'll drop the S/H fee if you order now. Projected shipping is late Jan 2010, early Feb with current production schedule he has (6 weeks ARO). I can't give you a date just yet as I don't have one. It will depend on lead time at the manufacture when I actually place the order. Go to the website and look at the pix on the home page. thesksmagadapter.com

Somehow my earlier comment didnt add in here, but will these work on an ATI drag stock with supplied parts? I can get a measurement if you need.

Danjal, if the Tapco duckbill mag works, my adapter will work. The width of the opening where the duckbill rests is the measurement I need. The factory stocks are usually in the .660 width. While the Tapco T6 is closer to .750. If you measure the width at the narrowest point forward, I can "cut" the adapter down to that width at no extra charge.

I can see the upside of this making the mags easier to carry and install in the rifle. Not to be a fly in the ointment I also see a downside. Since the Tapco mags are plastic at some point other parts of the mag may fail feed lips ect. Without changing the mag no big deal lifetime guarantee but if the mag has been altered I assume that would void the guarantee. So if the mag fails you are just left with a piece of worthless plastic.
