Let's talk DUCK-BILL-LESS applications. "DBL" for short
« on: April 26, 2010, 12:51:36 PM »
Hello gentlemen. The gracious guys here at the SKS Boards have allowed me the privilege of having my own forum. I think initially we will use this to discuss my adapter and any other "mods" you guys make to your guns to go DBL. We can exchange "how to" info, pix of the procedures, etc. Let's get started...

Here are some links to discussions we have been having:
http://www.sksboards.com/smf/index.php?topic=60819.0 this is the first thread with the survey, good read
http://www.sksboards.com/smf/index.php?topic=68912.0 this is the 2nd one, also a good read

There are some others, but these seem to be the relevant threads.

You are such a funny guy. Put a link here to your other thread that you put together with all the pix and such. That would be nice. I forgot what you called it. I'll try and hunt up all the other DBL threads and link them here also. I'll add them in the opening post. Marcus

I was going to gather up all the threads again when I got the time, Marcus, but you beat me to it.  Good work!

I think it's also important to link the  "Drop-Free bolt Incomplete" thread, which was introduced by Lollygagger.  His influence really got me moving on making my SKS into a truly tactical high capacity firearm.  Although ultra-bolt modification isn't necessary to incorporate the Magadapter system, it can add a couple of significant benefits.

1.  Removal of a mag when the bolt is still closed
2.  Insertion of a mag on a closed bolt without 'popping' a round out of the mag.

Marcus,

You should "pin" this introductory thread to the top of the forum.  Also, contact the mods when you're ready, and we'll start moving the DBL threads you reference to this forum.

How does one go about "pinning" a thread? I thought making it a sticky would be the same thing. Marcus

I'm with Les on the idea of moving each individual thread to populate the forum section.  I think it would be easier than having to open a new tab for each link if someone just wanted to puruse.

Yes, "pin" is another term for "making it a sticky".

It already is a "sticky". Thanks for moving all the threads over. Marcus

Oh kay......

What the he!! is DUCK-BILL-LESS?

I have another definition Matt.
(think Forrest Gump) Duck Bill, less you want to get your head knocked off!  OK so I know it was a stretch at best, so shoot me

On a serious note, Marcus I have a couple of the old Tapco 5 rnd mags that I use for hunting. They are hollow on the bottom side of the duckbill. Have you tried these with your adapter or do you have a solution? The only things I can think of off the top of my head are to fill in the cavity with black epoxy or cut down a Tapco 20rnder to a 5 or 10 rnd mag(was going to type clip, but didn't want to get blasted, lol).

We have "coined the term "DBL" for duck-bill-less. Lollygagger came up with it. On to your mag dilemma, I've actually done both. I found it easier to shape a piece of wood and insert it in the bottom of the 20 rounder pushing the spring upward then putting the floor plate back on. I did cut one down, but the wood was easier and faster. You could do the same thing with a piece of wood dowel rod. Once you got it the correct length insert it in the mag and close her up.

Greatguns,

My first and only attempt with a Tapco (Zytel) five rounder was unsuccessful, but not for the reason of the hollowed extension.  I simply could not make them feed as either duckbills or with duckbilless.  The angle of feed varies from up to down with these (cheap imitation) mags.
