Melting it is not such a problem, its getting it to puddle up right that's the trick.   :)

Ammunition / AAC "Sabre Blade Black Tip" 7.62x39mm 123 Grain SSSC
« Last post by outdoorman on November 03, 2025, 08:09:17 PM »
Anyone familiar with this ammo?
I just bought some from the local Palmetto State Armory Store with thoughts of using it in my SKS for whitetail and hogs.
From all the reviews it bullet is same as Hornady SST and the casing is steel.
Price is pretty good at $.60 per round or $11.99 per box of 20.
I will be hunting close range in southern woods with most shots under 60 yds.

If I could only melt steel with fire, I'd be dangerous, PAX

Nice build X, something to be proud of.

Our skills become more refined with age, at least mine have. At 67 I really enjoy projects because of it. Strength is the real issue but I?ve learned how to move things in a different way that doesn?t hurt! Keep on chuggin? and thanks for keeping us updated on your mad skilz!!

Nice work, about the only thing I'm not a fan of is the high vis sights. They look a little out of place on an older rifle. Otherwise she's a looked. Hopefully she shoots as well as she looks.

Yeah, I hear you there. I had considerable consternation over the sights. Keep it old world or go practical..... I kicked it around for a while. I have a copy of a folding leaf that would be similar to what was in the dove tail but the dove tail in the rib is way, way forward. I just barely cover it entirely with the front of the Rem ramp. So a notch way the heck up there would be impossible to find in low light. My top goal was to get the most accuracy out of the gun in hunting situations. When weighing that in, unfortunately, originality had to take a back seat. Those fiber optic sights sure do build confidence in a clean shot when there is only faint color on the western horizon. Here in TN I'm able to take 2 bucks and 3 antlerless deer during rifle with no permit or even license as on Land owner land. For 60 bucks I bought the life time everything Senior license anyway. TN is forcing me to put Venison in my freezer. Sitting in the woods idle for hours on end gives me the restless hebie gebies. THIS particular rifle gives me something to look at while I wait for a volunteer target.  :sniper

I accidentally doubled my order and have extras of these, so I knocked the price down. They fit most post-1945 Mosin carbines. Enjoy!

Rifles & Optics / VZ2008 for hunting deer?

I'm thinking of using my sks paratrooper as a brush gun here in the Georgia woods as I know it's been used by many for many years
I've got my vz2008 that also chambered in x39 but much lighter wielding in the field so want to hear opinions of it for a brush gun
Like to hear some feedback from those familiar with

General Discussion / Re: Israeli Hostages returned

Was it over optimistic to expect that people that have slaughtered each other for centuries would simply lay down their arms and become friends just because people they've never seen signed a piece of paper they've never read?

I suspect there will be continued infractions from both parties.

As I said before, let's see where they're at in 9 months.

I said in another thread it wouldn't last 6 months. Apparently it's an on and off peace "deal" at the present moment. I'm assuming once the hostages and bodies are being brokered they'll play peace. After that I'm expecting an all out war.
