I ended up ordering the Vortex SPARC SOLAR from PSA for $89. These were a $300 optic back when they first came out, and Vortex still has the MSRP as $399 on their website, but obviously that's higher than actual retail even without a sale.
I went with the SPARC SOLAR instead of the SPARC AR because it can be mounted lower and weighs much less than the AR version. The AR version houses the AAA battery under the optic, so you can only mount it low enough for 1/3 cowitness. I plan to put this on the Turknelli 12gauge, so I wanted a low mount option for shotgun use. I was hesitant about getting a solar powered sight, as I see that as another potential point of failure, but at least I can count on VORTEX's VIP warranty.
I don't have it yet, but it has nice features for $89.
-Shake Awake with auto turn off after 14 hours
-150,000 battery life (I'll probably swap batteries every couple of years regardless, but that's supposedly 15+years of battery life)
-flush windage and elevation adjustment for a slick profile.
-uses solar when possible, switches to battery in darkness. Can be ran with no battery if you have ambient light.
Hopefully I get time to use it before Spring.
They still have them in stock:
