Photos of new Yugo barrel from Widener's
« on: March 24, 2012, 08:25:56 AM »

As you can see, pretty nice.  However, notice there are no "flats" machined into the collar to facilitate using a wrench to torque the barrel into the receiver.  Any suggestions?  Also, just from visual it appears the chamber is final dimension.  I know headspace must be checked after the barrel is installed, but it appears there will be no need for finish reaming.  Can anyone provide information about this?  Surely someone has already rebarreled an SKS.

Also, any idea about the electro-pencil mark on the barrel?

  Yeh.  I'm gonna grab the shiney new barrel with a pipe wrench!

Actually, the barrel flats must be there, and in the correct place, so the rear sight block will clear that collar and the barrel and receiver will sit down into the stock on the stock crossbolt.

The barrel must be torqued onto the receiver with the collar intact and then marked at the receiver indexing mark.  Then removed and machined.

I will post some photos.  I will be working on it again this weekend.

The collar flats are easy to make........ What looks concerning to me is the lack of a recessed chamber face.   :?
Is being " overly anal" a good thing.... or a bad thing?

10-4 on that Mr. Coinring.  I haven't looked closely, but is the recess on the breech face to clear the extractor or assist in clearing a loaded round being extracted from the chamber?  I will look at it more closely this weekend.

How are you planning to machine the flats?  I have a couple of ideas, but my first choice will be to ask my father's machinist buddy for a "machinist buddy's price" to do it on his vertical mill.  Or let me use his mill.  Otherwise it will be "Plan B."
