SKS with detachable magazine
« on: April 02, 2012, 09:02:16 AM »
Hey guys I have an sks that I'm thinking about putting a detachable magazine on and with a fixed mag its considered a non-large capacity rifle. If I replace it with a detachable mag would that make it a large capacity?

Usually if the mag is over 10rnds it is considered high(large) capacity.

I have a fixed 10rd mag and I can just pull the pin that makes it a fixed mag and it'll be a detachable but the reason why I ask is because I live in Massachusetts and the large cap roster states that it is large capacity if it accepts or is modified to readily accept large cap mags. But I have my FA10 that say it is non-large

That depends strictly upon the capacity of the magazine.
A TAPCO 20 rounder may be a no-no, whereas a John Masen 10 rounder, or a TAPCO permanently modded to ten rounds would be okay.

I live in Massachusetts

I'm sorry. I left there a decade ago, and have never gone back.  Or even looked in that direction.   :banghead:

You might want to check in with a gun shop in MA, just to be sure.  I could never quite 'get' the arcane rules they've set there....a good gun store would be able to help you out a lot, I'd think...

there's just one thing about the ma gun shops. Some would sell a ruger 10/22 (has detach mag) and some won't because someone can sneak in a hi cap mag or whatever that's why I tried here its far too confusing and I really don't want to risk losing my 2A right over this so ill just stick with the fixed mag. Thanks anyways guys

I think you are making a wise choice in this Rifling. If you set your SKS for detachable mags then it has the capability  of accepting up to a 75rnd drum as easily as a 10rnd detachable mag so you are far better off with the original mag.

Sorry, bud...just that level of concern in your writing lets me know you already HAVE lost your 2nd Amendment rights.  Maybe someday the good people of MA will stop being moonbats and will be more like you; thinking about things, getting educated, and understanding that they are their RIGHTS, not government's!    Best get a FIVE round mag to keep on hand, just in case, too....

:rant off:  Man, I hated living there.  33 years was far too long!

You might want to just turn in your rifle if you're that worried about it.

Frankly, I've seriously considered moving out of Illinois ONLY because of their draconian gun laws, regardless of the stupid high taxes and budgetary issues.

If someone here in another state wants to give me a job, I would take it!

Good luck Drinker!  You don't want to consider Commiefornia for your move, home of Nancy Pelosi, the most dangerous person in the country.

This is Definitely "Indian Territory".

I live in Oklahoma, original " Indian Territory". Me gottum high cap mag, me gottum bunch ! I am also an unconquered and unconquerable Chickasaw. Drinker move down here, very low unemployment, reasonable cost of living and fairly reasonable gun laws.
