Wobbly Bayonet
« on: April 07, 2012, 10:31:19 AM »
If I recall correctly, the 1951 Russian is the last year that used the straight collar bayonet. The others were slanted. My 1952 Tula ex-DDR bayonet wobbles a bit when it is retracted. I didn't notice at first until I picked up my Izzy and realized it was locked down tight. I then checked my Yugo, locked down tight. The Tula however, wobbles. Should I be selling a gun or two to finance a straight collar? lol.

Edit: Adding pictures of the bayonet collar currently on the rifle:

Some of the 1952 also required square collar. Look at the shape of your lug. That lug is designed for a straight collar.
Your shown collar is the wrong one.
Ammo- What would you be saying if they were refusing to sell at all? That they are hoarding and not sharing?Sounds like Obama talk to me; we cant have "ammo inequality" lets take from the 1% of people with the most ammo and redistribute it to the 99%

They seem to vary from $35 to $50. Your best chance may be right here.  Try the WTB section and drop a word or two on Russian topics perhaps. Some people have been taking the square cut collar off and putting the newer one on. They buy a cheap Chinese collar and then sell that straight one for a few bucks.

I'll look around also. I'll do some checking and let you know where if we see one. Sometimes it is a long wait until one turns up.

Those are both straight cut,  the clearances just stacked on the sloppy side.
Show a pic of your bayonet folded.
If they are wrong it is completely obvious.  Looks like a limp "noodle".

So... is it just a QC issue? Or is it the wrong collar?

Some bayonets have more "wobble" than others. None of your pics show what really needs to also be seen, and that is the whole bayonet freely hanging. If when retracted, it's still inside of the wood slot, I think that's within normal. If it's visibly hanging below the stock line, then your lug is messed up somehow. I'm thinking it's fine, just from looking at the retracted angle, TX. Your bayonet may not be the original one, as it looks to have been possibly taken off at some point. The screw is marred and the peen stakes are broken.
