I wish they made a 16in barreled affordable Bolt Action rifle in 7.62 X 39...that would be the "cats pajamas"

Yugo SKS, simply switch the gas block to 'grenade launcher' mode.

Local shop has one, and if I wasn't going to the show Saturday for ammo, it would be in my rack.

Only other one I know of is the CZ 527. But it sells for $500+, which is way too much for a x39 bolt action.
What is it really, that motivates you?
The need to fly, or this fear to stop?

Savage 10 FCM Scout. a little pricey and 20'' instead of 16. but other than that it should be a excellent rifle. and it even has iron sights as a backup.

I'd give my eyeteeth if we could get the AIA M10 in this country. It's an Aussie bolt action rifle that comes in x39 and takes AK mags.

It's like an Enfield and an FR-8 had a bastard love child that was midwifed by an SKS-M.

I've seen them very rarely on some auction sites, but otherwise they don't seem to ever make it over here. Doesn't make sense - seems like they'd sell well over here, right? And they don't come from any Evil Countries. Anyone have any theories on that?

If you really want one like that, Special Interest Arms makes a conversionkit that will allow you to convert a Lee Enfield to shoot 7.62x39 out of single stack AK mags.  I've been planning to get one done for a while and even have a huge lot of the mags already for when I finally get around to it.

So if I get ahold of my friend in australia can he send me the rifle piece by piece or would I get locked up in hooskou for that?

Yeah that is as close as we can get in the US, they even have the kit you can do it yourself.

If I'm not mistaken, the Remington 799 Mini-Mauser and Zastava LKM85 are one in the same.
