Unlikely.  Probalby rebuilt and stored in the late 50's or 60's as units continued to convert to the AK.  Then sold as surplus once there were enough extra AKs to go around and around...

Yep, as the AK47 replaced unit weapons, they went to refurb. and then stored.

Question: I've noticed the front sight post (just the post, not the entire block), is canted quite a bit to the left. Is that normal? Somehow used to compensate for the bayonet being out?

Define canted.  Bent pin? Or,do you mean it is just pushed further left. Good pic would help.
 What ever, it has no relationship to the bayonet. Can't say to much as it would be risky.
