First time at the range
« on: May 09, 2012, 07:08:18 PM »
My son Chris and I headed out to the PA State rifle range. I handed him my Mosin laminate to try and I the Yugo. Loaded three rounds (PA range limit for rifles) pointed the rifle slammed the bolt shut towards the target (just in case of a slam fire). Aimed... blam, blam, blam. My son was recording the event. I then faced him and expressed a Wow! :o My first semi-auto experience. He laughed because one of the empties bounced off his head. Fired flawlessly. After plinking with the Mosin's the SKS recoil was pleasant. The only rework besides refinishing and cleaning was installing Murray's gas valve and I lapped the seer for positive engagement. Oh, 25 yards and the grouping was very good. I had to tap the front site to the right but as I get used to actually shooting with some skill I'll start quantifying groupings.

You want positive engagement.

Oops! It is positive engagement. Made the correction. Dyslexia.

Nice rifles. Seems like everyone has a Mosin these days. I might break down a get one now.

I bought both locally before I got my C&R. The laminate M91/30 I purchased at Dunham's, the Yugo at Ace Sporting Goods, Washington, PA.  My son Chris (feet in picture) started the whole milsurp shebang when he gave me a M91/30 last Christmas. 7.62x54R ammo is cheap and everywhere, fun to shoot, got a kick tho'.

The Mosin stock was refinished with 5 coats of Truoil. Natural, no stain.

Thanks for the Kudos  :hello2:
