AMD-65 Pros and cons

<< < (3/11) > >>

Mancat:
What I meant is that the average joe shooter might be affected by the short sight radius. No complaints about the accuracy of the AMD itself. Seen a lot of SBRed Dracos that still ring a gong fine at 200yd.

The biggest cons IMO are the short sight radius, short barrel, and (semi) permanent muzzle device. These things all add up to a less than stellar reputation for accuracy, though this is mostly on the shooter and not the rifle itself.

An AMD-65 doesn't have to stay an AMD-65.

Looks sweet Mancat...where did you source the gas tube?

Mancat:
Not my gun! Shoulda said something along those lines. I just wanted to show the OP that if he doesn't like the AMD-65, it doesn't have to stay the way it came out of the box. Actually if you look closer, the AMD in the pic is a screw-built kit. The gas tube is probably from a Draco, shaved down to fit. The two have nearly identical gas system lengths.

D-FENS:
The AMD is truely one of my favorite variants and they are still priced well especially considering what your getting. The 'mag wobble' is a non-issue, some have it, some do not (mag dependent), does not cause problems. The wire stock has got to be one of the most solid folders ever designed, cheek-weld needs to be slightly lower but is another non-issue. And the quickest, easiest SBR you can convert, after you get your 'stamp' it takes about 30 seconds to remove the tac-weld.

AKBLUE:
A standard AKM gas tube can be shortened annealed and flared for an AMD fit.  The AMD lower handguard retainer will accept standard wood lowers but they must be modified for the narrower and shorter retainers and the retainers pins removed or the handguared inletted for the pins.
