my first sks!!!!
« on: June 22, 2012, 10:08:56 PM »
This is my first sks. I have been trying to acquire one forever and finally came across this one at a local pawn shop. I was kind of bummed that it isn't all numbers matching (it does not have the original dust cover). It also did not come with a bayo, or cleaning rod. I was about to talk him down from $300 to $220 because of those issues. Took it out to shoot today and absolutely loved it. I was thinking about getting a tapco stock and a few other accessories, but I love the look of it as it. What are your suggestions?

 In this market, for $220, you did real well;

 My suggestion would be to lose the scope, and shoot the rifle just like it is, with the irons, as it was meant to be shot; the money you were going to buy other stuff with, buy ammo with it.

 You can always add all that other stuff later...

 They are nice, simple, durable rifles, enjoy yours..... 8) 8)

Definitely shoot in regular configuration first. Since it isn't all matching number it is a viable candidate for after market goodies if you choose. Keep your original equipment though.

  Get you a bayonet and cleaning rod.  Should be easy to find a reciever cover.  Oh yeah,  if you don't already have some find some good stripper clips.  See if you can handle another rifle with a Tapco stock.  My Friend has one and I hate it.  You can't even get your eyes down to use the iron sights.

 Nothing wrong with Tapco; they make a good product at a reasonable price, here in the USA , and with a lifetime warranty; If you have an SKS, and you want to put it in another stock for whatever reason , a Tapco T-6 or a Timbersmith are good choices.

  If you have a classic rifle, and you want to keep it as such, then yes, keep it allllll original; but with something like this rifle, which is already missing some parts and has been altered, you aren't going hurt it a bit.

so does any one know how the serial numbers correspond with the year of the rifle??? i bought a norinco sks, all matching serial numbers inside and out. i gave $250 for it about 2 weeks ago. i have heard several different stories about how it works. the serial number starts in the 1,500,000. if any one can help me out i would greatly appreciate it. thanks.
